I don't know what my first game was - mid sixties or thereabouts with my Dad and Grandad.

My first game was against Barnsley 29th September 1963, starting with the roller coaster firmly at the bottom and a 2-1 defeat. From there it could only go up....and down

Does anybody remember the game when a big fog came down during the match (late 50s it must have been) and the ref called the game off. I was on the Holmesdale end bank and could hardly see beyond the penalty area. Also sound was muffled by the fog so couldn't hear the crowd beyond our end. So we didn't know the ref had called the players off the pitch. Neither did the goalie at our end. It was only after a number count in the changing rooms did they realise the goalie was missing and sent out a search party and it was only then that the crowd around me also realised .

Palace v Colchester Feb 1964 was my first match, so 2 years until I have 60 years of following the Glaziers/Eagles. The game finished 0-0 and was probably pretty dire, but we were promoted to Division 2 at the end of the season so all was well and I was hooked.

My first game is enshrined (?) in my signature block, below. My second game, after having been hooked by the first, was 2-1 at home to Newcastle, who had Malcolm McDonald up front and who wore white socks with black hoops, which seemed a bit 'odd' even for the 70s. Bobby Kellard executed a penalty almost as badly as Wilf did last week, but it somehow rolled into the goal with the 'keeper having dived the other way.
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

I have followed Palace since 1973 when Malcolm Allison became manager. However due to circumstances I only ever got to see Palace play at Carrow Road until I finally got too Selhurst.
