I would be interested to know why you think that....

He is class, just a late starter, similar to Wrighty

He's really not similar to Wright, not at all.

Wright came into the first team quite quickly, and although very raw, you could see there was a player in there. I haven't seen anything like that in JRB.

Saying he is '' class '' doesn't really answer my question - what is it about him that convinces you Palace are making a mistake letting him go ?

As I commented before, JRB may need to take a step backwards to go two forwards. From what I saw of him, much the same as Ryan Inniss before, he looks lower league at best. I think the fact that he has gone to a L1 club says it all.

Still, you have a habit of bucking the experts opinions ( not including myself in that bracket btw ), and I know whose views I think are valid....

Once again, I find myself in agreement with you.
JRB's strengths are his comfort on the ball, his long passing and his ability to move forward with the ball.
HOWEVER, on the downside, he's too slow both in terms of movement and in reacting to events around him in defence. I also thought of Inniss as I was trying to compare him. I can't see him (JRB) coping with the pace of the game in the PL.
He was given a few minutes off the bench yesterday so that was good for him after only just arriving at Accrington.

Same as my assessment, Doombear.

I'm still of the opinion that U23 football doesn't do enough to prepare players for League football. Maybe I'm missing something, but it used to be the case that if you were over 20 years old and you hadn't got a look in at first team football, you weren't going to make it.

One player I got totally wrong ( among others ) a few years back was Sagi Burton. Saw him play at Youth level and thought he had the lot - big, strong, ferocious in the tackle and could play a bit. But he never cut it at Palace's level.

Jake O'Brien seemed ahead of him in the queue and it may just be JRB didn't see a way to the first team. By moving he gets the chance to try and play regularly at a reasonably high level and potentially earn a move to a bigger club. Guehi and Andersen are both young and I can see them being our preferred centre-back pairing for at least the next few seasons. Like Innis he does look like a beast though so I don't think he'll have too much trouble carving out a career, even if it is only in the lower leagues or abroad. Good luck to the lad.

I think he is a good passer, quick, extremely strong, and 6 foot 6, he is only 22, the comparison i was making about Ian Wright was he hadn't played a professional game until he was 22, not brought up through the youth system like Baghuelou

Did we get a fee or future fee? Despite everything said about ours not being good enough, there are plenty of our ex youngsters knocking about the league. Some doing well. It isn't long before one of them makes it bigger. Around 25-26, is when you'd perhaps expect it normally. I wonder whether Jay-Rich got fed up and asked to leave? I expect he will at least make a Championship side in the end.

The Beeb simply says transfer was for an undisclosed fee so presumably not a free transfer.

What is the point of the new academy if it is not going to produce the goods.

We have to be bold and introduce young players.

I thought the policy was to re-balance due to our ageing squad.

Rak-Sakyi and Wells-Morrison are likely the only 2 under 23 to come out. Maybe Kirby.

It's Wells-Morrison I'm most excited about. Looks really talented, and an attacking midfielder.

Reminds me of another blond midfielder we currently have...

This is only the second year on the New Academy and we've only had all the resources needed to attract the better youngsters this season. Rak-Sakyi has already had a few minutes and will probably get more before the season is out and some of the lads we've picked up in the last 18 months may prove to be good enough. It will take time.
