I was much more impressed with what we saw of him on Sunday than I had expected.

He was alive to the game and he certainly took a better corner than Luka!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

A really pleasing debut. Personally not that surprised . I can only think the hate of Watford has coloured opinions of him. Because he has had class since his early days at Derby, it could be argued that Watford , was not the right place for him to go at that stage of his career . He is still not old, in his prime in fact, £6 mill was only justified by his contract situation, he is worth more than that I will be surprised if he doesn’t prove it with us.

He was out of contract next summer and for whatever reason wasn’t going to sign a new deal so we probably wanted to get some sort of fee for Hughes.

I thought he was always a tidy player who also liked to get stuck in.

Certainly when he played was one of our better more creative players.

Maybe was a doubt Hughes might be lightweight at times .

Based on 60 minutes, whereby McArthur has been great for us for 7 years. Prefer to see him play a few more games and last 90 minutes, before making sweeping statements.

This is very true. I also think that whilst it was a great performance and result yesterday, Everton were pretty poor and helped to make us look good. Not many teams will give us so much space and time on the ball.

He had the very nice habit on Sunday of finding somebody with the same shirt as him when playing a pass......not something we've always had in the middle of the park.

If he learns anything off Gallagher, then it'll soften he blow come summer when he goes back to Chelsea - he and Macca, with the rest of midfield... not bad at all...

This was once a quality forum....

I was so pleased to see him in the starting line-up. His 10 Minutes at Leeds pointed to what he might do if given a chance and today he didn't disappoint. Glad for him. Hope he's fit enough to start again on Wednesday. He enabled Gallagher to play further forward where he is most dangerous.

Yep he was great.

Not sure he's got the same engine as Macca but truthfully he's a class above on the ball - a really metronomic passer who almost invariably finds his man. He's a great fit for receiving the ball from the back and recycling it even if the press is less aggressive in midfield.

This

Very different from the the others. Dare I say it, probably a little more like Cabaye.

He did ,as Macca, did in the earlier games give Gallagher, the platform to be his adventurous self.. our recent blip, has been to some degree because that had gone missing..
I have already said ,Will has always had quality, and no shrinking violet, and in that respect he brings us something we have been short on since Cabaye, left.

I think what Hughes brings to the team is that he receives and recycles the ball quickly short passes that allow the game to flow. He provides an outlet for the two centre halves br dropping back and picking up the ball.

What we saw on Sunday was an energetic midfield something we are often lacking as Luka and Kouyate cannot perform that role and certainly not together.

the strange thing is how long it took PV to give him a game - must have been some sort of fitness issue bcos he has looked totally assured in all his appearances so far
