Nigel Farage never seems like the cleverest in any room. However, why is it that this same issue turns up again and again in Ireland? Is there some reason British people are supposed to know the whole of Irish history? Are the entire country to do a collective exam on this? The original post was about Nige going on national tv and being told he hasn"t got a clue by a journo, and he was dumbstruck, to be fair he bought up the 500 years of Irish history and linked it to brexit himself, so perhaps he shouldn"t pretend to know things he doesn"t and go on tv to get shown up! You seem to have the gov over there taking the pizz out of the peoples ASCP- but just look at what ours are doing here! The grass is always greener-although its hard to get better than over there!

Presumably because he's spent so much time in recent years discussing the issue. I don't disagree with your point as a whole, but Farage has claimed to be informed in this space and clearly isn't, so criticism is fair game.

I didn't know Farage had set himself up as some kind of expert. If he did, he deserves it. In Ireland, similar stories pop up every once in a while. You can imagine the diatribe. The Dept. Of Education here tried to cancel History as a subject, luckily they rolled back on that.

Even in Ireland, there's no deflecting from how rubbish the government are. Normally people just put up with it. However, the average person is genuinely angry - you won't hear much about it. However, Sinn Fein will win the next election, which will be frankly unprecedented. I guess they're nationalist, but perhaps not likely to want Farage's blessing! Personally, although I could understand some of the reasons for Brexit, I always thought Farage was "a bit of a bluffer".

Yeah, he"s just winging it like all the others, and got lucky with the result, making him a political god in half the countrys eyes, and would have been a has been had he lost, he got lucky that corbyn didn"t go for a remain ticket, might have been a different outcome. Are Sinn Fein surging or is it just that people don"t like the power sharing from two conservative parties?Do you think Mary Lou would be any good or just another talker?I been looking at properties this afternoon over there, online obvs, suprising what you can get for your buck, until you look at the map and see its 10 miles to the nearest small town.(one shop, a church and a school)!

SF are going to win but their supporters are very VERY conservative. It's all down to Fine Gael trying to bring privatisation and 'let the market fix itself.' It's not working, nobody can afford a house. Only took 100 years for the civil war politica to finally end... Edited by corkery (22 Oct 2021 3.58pm)

I honestly don't know what Mary Lou will be like. I suspect she won't be as shouty in power, as she is out of it. I kind of look at it as can't be any worse than what we have. But you never know! Massive rural decline in Ireland. You'll frankly be lucky if there's a pub or shop these days. Places with a Post Office tend to have a bit more community.

Thanks , things might be getting worse by the minute then-one of the properties I was just browsing online was the redundant post office in town!

Its the same over here, police stations went 10 years ago, post offices are mainly in large towns if you want to do certain checks etc, and pubs are getting a rare breed, except for the wetherspoons in town, somethings going on in the world, and its not covid, these were long before that, somethings got to give- people coming up can"t afford houses here either, interesting times ahead.

Farage was feted as a hero when he spoke at Trinity College. Lots of irish like Farage and hate the EU. want to find a politician the irish really dislike ? ex Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. Angela Merkel's attack-dog. Merkel & Varadkar. who is the b1tch ?
And Varadkar's ballot performance, in his own constituency, was an historic low for a sitting Taoiseach. Edited by PalazioVecchio (23 Oct 2021 6.17pm) Edited by PalazioVecchio (23 Oct 2021 6.19pm)
