Ha, I bet even the hipsters gave it a wide berth when "g an t" became fashionable. Can’t stand G&T but back in the day brown and mild always sounded better than light and bitter. Maybe the drink Brown is banned now, who knows

I could only ever afford a quarter and used to buy sweets from the newsagents at Hayes Station. My mum used to work there. I used to also buy the ha'penny sweets. 50 aniseed balls etc. My pocket money was about 25p. I totally agree about stone. Kgs are not useful for weight and metres and cms are not useful for height. A litre of beer would be fine but a pint's about right. Half litre is for girls or Aussies. Just one thing Old Geezer. Please don't go round the pubs looking for two ounces of sherbert. It's a fair few grand and pretty dangerous. Not sure the pubs in Midhurst have much “ under the counter” stuff going on, but there again these Country folk!

Unsurprisingly most pubs see themselves as restaurants. On the subject of black and tan etc, it frankly never occurred to me about the racial connotations. How sad that even a drink is suspect because of what it's called. Mine's a white wine please landlord!
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Actually prefer Mackeson for that, but it's like looking for a needle in haystack to find a shop that stocks it! On the subject of drinks..... Snakebite anyone?

I expect the youngsters are all metric so Boris is appealing to our age group bit of Tory nostalgia. But it's so simple! 16 ounces to a pound, 2240 pounds in a ton, 36 inches in a yard, 1760 yards in a mile. I'm sure the young'uns are all clambering to learn it .

I seem to remember the very flat pink bubble gum which would usually come with a couple of WW2 Cards, normally depicting a Jap screaming BANZAI & graphically lopping off someones head. Oh & Bazooka Joe as well......
