Going abroad as in Europe or ROW? If you're talking comparing a trip to south america with a trip to Scotland, fine. But if you are comparing a trip to the Costa Del Brits or an equivalent butlinised area of a European country, then the UK certainly has way more to offer.

That's a bit unfair as you aren't comparing like with like. If you are going to talk about "Costa Del Brits or an equivalent butlinised area of a European country" shouldn't you be comparing them to Blackpool or Clacton?

Yet I feel holidays in this country is more bother. I love the all inclusive where you get picked up from the airport and taken to your destination. Not having to bother with buying food/drinks as well and then the excursions to other parts of the country you are staying in. Plus you get the sun :-) It seems holidays in this country requires you to drive distances and makes more hassle/tiredness? Happy to do both types of holidays but those abroad seem easier to this old geezer :-)

You certainly have to choose your times to travel.
We decided to avoid the motorways this year and do only A roads to Cornwall with a few breaks. It takes longer, but you get a better experience. The claustrophobic and boring nature of motorways was starting to ruin the experience.
The missus has persuaded me that we can go in her Audi Roadster convertible this time, so that might fun or terrible.
We managed to find somewhere that had not put their prices up this year and you can get food delivered, so it should be fairly easy.
I must admit that when we go to France, I actually like going to the supermarche. All part of the fun.

Arguably those two are better

I did center parcs two years ago.

The spelling should have warned me.

An expensive Butlins....the location is a lot better and the biking was refreshing, but apart from that I had the impression that it only exists for those who want to avoid the commoners.

I hate hearing that term used by some people, this country can not match going abroad.

Depends what holiday you're going on of course. UK is no good if you're after guaranteed sun or skiing.

However, if you enjoy the outdoors and decent pubs, it's tough to beat the UK. Traditionally I've been an overseas man, but over the past 18 months I've been to Snowdonia, Lake District and Devon which are places I wouldn't have ordinarily gone to. All terrific places and an real eye opener. I think the UK is underrated for holidays.

If I start a family one day, a UK based holiday with young children will be far simpler than the hassle and costs of flying.

I fancied a couple of weeks in a Devon cottage, but alas couldn"t afford it, so had to settle for a month on Australias gold coast.

That's certainly true of the beer as we've just come back from Greece and the beer was awful
