16 goal in four seasons, 6m a year, 1.5m a goal, fantastic isn't it. undoubtedly with Sakho the worst ever signings, money wise, and Glenn Murray twice the player of CB, given away, Pardew has a lot to answer for.

Think your being overly harsh on him. this is the same argument as Heskey - a striker that didn't score goals, But the team plays better with him in it.

I'm not saying he's great - his movement in the box is shocking - but he was our best option for ages.
OE has come in now - will he prove he has enough to take over from Benteke? In this team, I think so. certainly his first 20 minutes were promising.

Having watched Leeds try to take the game to Liverpool only to get hammered to feck every single time Liverpool won the ball back, I'd be surprised and concerned if Vieria wanted us to press them high up the pitch.

Result aside, this will be an interesting indicator of how flexible and practical a coach Vieria is. Does he act all brave and stick with his preferred system and plan, or does he tweak it given the strength of the opponent?

The Bench is as important for this game as the starting 11. If the high press goes tits-up PV needs a plan B, if it works then we have to stay 'fresh' for 90 minutes.
Assuming 4-3-3 again, the only change I'd like to see is a front 3 of Zaha, Benteke and Edouard with 2 central and Wilf on either side as the mood takes him. I'm sure Benteke would provide the presence to give Edouard room and a few knock downs.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion about Benteke, i respect it but disagree

I doubt he'll change the team from what started last week. It won and was effective. Although he didn't score, Benteke was part of that winning performance. Even Ayew played his part. Ihink we'll press but it is how we get the ball up the pitch that will be key. I reckon we'll be more direct.

I feel that PV is someone that doesn't want to change things week in week out. The successful Arsenal sides had a settled 1st XI.

That being said, it depends what has happened in training this week.

Maybe Edouard has shown enough to get ahead of Benteke already.

I think the the rest of the team will be the same. He will keep Ayew on the right for this work ethic, though as time goes by you feel Olise will get that spot.

Midfield is interesting, Gallagher is a given, but the rest will be fighting for places. With only 2 places up for grabs, with 4 midfielders in Kouyate, McArthur, Luka and Hughes. And longer term there Eze to come back as well.

I hope we play with some balls. There's something in this game for us if we do. 100%.

For the first time Bentenke has real competition. I think PV will keep an unchanged team, but with Edouard's pace he will offer a genuine threat from the bench against tiring legs. Ayew will probably also start but he really needs to start offering more or I can't see him keeping his place for much longer. Likewise if Kouyate's passing doesn't improve then Luka and possibly Hughes might start knocking on PV's door.

Viera does not seem like a manager that will ever park the bus, so it will be interesting to see how the game pans out.

If Luka is fit enough I’d like to see him in the team, in place for Kouyate. That long pass in the build up was beautiful, and could add another dimension for us.

Agree with others that Bentenke and Ayew probably start, but will start to be replaced in time, or against the right opponents.

Correct and what's Pardew got to do with anything?

Which is essentially what he has just said in the pre-match press conference. He wants his team to be brave and cause Liverpool problems. However, I expect there will be a greater emphasis on defence than in the three previous games where we had either the majority of possession or our fair share.

His response re Benteke v Edouard suggests he may start with Benteke.
