I think we need at least three players to beef the squad up. PV said himself that he had young players on the bench on Saturday that aren't ready for first team football yet. So we need to sign players that can come in and immediately compete for a starting place. If the only means of signing another striker is to end Mateta's loan, then so be it. Not judging him on Saturday's performance, but overall I've seen little to suggest he has what it takes at this level although I realise the service provided also needs to be improved.

in my Opinion we played the best team in the world on Saturday with a new manager, a lot of key players not available, i was more impressed by PV changing tactics than the performance, i think Chelsea will walk the league this year

If we only had 2 I’d take another CM and a winger. Yesterday’s issue was that we just got overran in centre midfield. Jairo might have a decent range of passing but isn’t anywhere near athletic enough to play in a 2 man CM in this league. Neither is Luka. If we are going to play either of them, it needs to be part of a 3. If not, we’ll just get overrun. Kante was also missing yesterday, and would have added even more energy to their midfield. Ayew isn’t a proper outlet on the wing, he’s best used as a 9 or a 10. I rate him, but just not in the wrong position. With the players we have now, I’d move Wilf back onto the wing, with Jeff on the other. Ayew can then play the 10 roles behind Benteke, dropping into midfield to provide an extra body in there.

Bargain Hunt We are being linked with lots of players in similar positions I think it is likely that we have got our key targets for the window and are now on a bargain hunt. I guess we are hoping to pick up players on loan or a bargain price which is why we are being linked with so many. We're knocking on door hoping someone will open one. My guess is that we may sign one or 2 around deadline day but for now the selling clubs are holding out hoping for an auction. Our early business showed that when we are serious we can compete with other clubs and get them over the line. Anyway lets hope Dougie can land a couple of bargains.

With Ward our 1st choice right-back, we certainly need an addition here with someone more suited to PV's style of play. Like being able to pass the ball to a teammate.
