(excuse the pun) you painted the picture perfectly. i have often called out people on here for posting without facts/doing research. if you are going to post tripe about a lack of spending on transfers etc, than at least actually understand the business model you are ranting about, a balance sheet is not that hard to understand, especially if you are going to comment in it. with hindsite that big fat crooked sam transfer window was both great, but bad at the same time, as was the sakho signing afterwards. however, it seems the club has learnt from that and is moving forward with a new ethos…it will prob take a few years for it to bear fruit but if we can maintain our PL status throughout that time all will be good.

Hopefully Textor is a good owner for us. In general I am in favour of widening the club ownership I prefer having multiple shareholders rather than being at the whim of one individual owner. Just ask the Arsenal fans. The Southampton guy was a good owner but died and his daughter doesn't seem that interested. Chelsea's owner may end upsetting his mate Putin or facing UN sanctions it's a possibility. Anyway lets hope it is a harmonious group of owners who are measured and thoughtful.

I wonder if he will join the Ultras? Although I prefer the atmosphere in the Arthur. If he builds us a new Stand it will have to be the Textor. Edited by dreamwaverider (11 Aug 2021 9.06pm)

It doesn’t sit well with me. Wealthy overseas owner coming in with no affiliation to the club. This is a small scale version of what happened at Chelsea and Man City, which I absolutely despise. Unfortunately this is what the Premier League has become and what is necessary to survive. What a sad state football has become. Clubs should be made to run like businesses with no outside financial influence. I’ve been the most excited about the new season as I have been for about 5 years with all the new signings. Probably should have put 2 and 2 together, but this puts a dampener on it for me. We’re no different from the rest.

Sadly I can only agree with most of what you say, although I would reach a slightly different conclusion. Any money we've spent has to get cleared by the FFP regs, so even if the cash has come straight from the pocket of a rich individual as reported, we still have to be good for it as a club.

What do you decide upon, Premier League security with rich foreign investors or lower league obscurity? Having looked at the guys Twitter it explains that weird Jacob Montes signing at the beginning of the window.

John Texter wanted to buy into Benfica not sure if he did, listened to him talking on Portuguese TV about his plans. He seems very genuine ,interested, down to earth quite happy he has invested, not sure how much money he has to lose or invest but came across as a very genuine sports fan. Hope I'm right. Good luck to him.

I think for me the main issue I have is that foreign investors tend to have diverse goals/intentions. Take Roman at Chelsea and the City owners. They wanted sporting success where the cost didn’t matter. They bought it and once they had it, they made sure to solidify their position for future success. Then there’s the owners at Leicester who I believe to be a bit of an anomaly. Great success, great model, didnt buy their titles…they earned it. Then there are all the other foreign owners. The type to see clubs as a future investment. Plough 90m in today and one day get back 200m for your shares. All they have to do is stay in the Prem every year and each year their investment grows in its worth until one day a new bumper TV deal is agreed that makes the club a great return. But these owners tend to prefer security over a push for honours. Keeping the status quo is more important than winning something…but let’s be honest that’s not easy to do. Perhaps none of these situations to most palace fans are too distasteful. I’ve always been happy to stay up…that’s me being honest. I’d love a good cup final again mind! These guys are not going to buy us success. They may not even build something, build a club model, something to guarantee future success. They will only invest their money in ventures they considered
