Interesting article AS, which, if I've read it right, says that Barca's members are desperate to keep him at the club regardless of the financial harm he's caused.

Too late for that now, hes signed for loadsamoney PSG.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Interesting to see how they will be funding the acquisition seeing as Covid has decimated spectator income in France as well as everywhere else and the collapse of the French TV deal seems to have bankrupted every other club

Possibly one of the most short sighted decisions in football if the have to sell Mbappe to fund the signing of Messi.

Mbappe is the future. MESSI is the past.

Correct. Paying Messi such an outrageous salary has bankrupted the club and jeopardised his colleagues' careers.

His brilliance as a player is long gone.

He's favourite for the Ballon D'or this year - captained Argentina to the Copa America and was joint top scorer, top scorer in La Liga by a distance last year.

Still the best player in the world.

Nothing to do with Barca's woeful recruitment over the last few years;

Coutinho for £120m
Dembele for £120m
Griezmann for £108m
De Jong for £80m

Even below the headline ones the recruitment is woeful;

Malcom for £37m
Lenglet for £32m
Paulinho for £36m

They've got Griezmann on a reported £500k+ per week contract, Coutinho on over £400k per week, Umtiti on over £200k a week, Dembele the same

They're an absolute sh*tshow of a club - to pretend it's somehow Messi's fault is laughable.

PSG aren’t worried about funding, it looks like the French league will cut them some slack, and the economists reckon that Messi pulls more than covers his salary. Granted not cash yet, but PSG doubled their Instagram followers since he signed.

Messi was never Barca’s issue, the fact that they pay ridiculous salaries to everyone is their issue. Please don’t tell me that Coutinho or Greizmen wouldn’t have signed for a 150k salary? Of course they would. Most players would cut off their right arm to play at Barca with Messi.

And anyone who is saying that he is finished as a footballer is MAD. In the top 5 leagues last season only 1 player outscored him. So that’s more than Ronaldo, Haaland, Mbappe, Lukaku. The guy is superhuman.

By way of an example, since Kane started scoring lots of goals 14/15 onwards, he’s scored a pretty impressive 216 goals. Messi has scored 100 more.

So I’m not sure it is bad business at all. The guy practically pays for himself with the extra income he generates. And his 40 odd goals might be enough to get them the Champions league.

When we had Andy Johnson, he was the prem top goalscorer....And still we got relegated.

I reckon Messi still scores lots of goals but he somehow restricts his teammates from performing.

Otherwise how can we explain how shyte Barca have been recently ?

So are you suggesting AJ made us worse that season?

The explanation is quite obviously that the rest of the team is underperforming.

Yes. Moreover, he's delivered everywhere he's gone. For the most part, Messi has delivered in a league akin to the championship.

This is the worst post I've ever read

the Spanish League does have a yawning gap between the top 6 and the bottom teams.

The bottom teams would struggle in the English championship....true.

But the top teams are all Champions-League quality.

And before you cry bullsh1t....be mindful that the English championship is a bloody tough league - with no easy games.

yesterday's man.

Looking about as relevant as Anthony Eden after the Suez Crisis.

time to focus on the managerial career Lionel.

The tv pundit on irish telly is one 'Damien Delaney', ever heard of him ? ..... and Damo explaining that Messi was part of the reason that Barca got smashed 8-0 last year.
