This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I think saints need him more than us and will pay over the odds, like Villa have done for Ings. They have the funds and are now desperate 10 days before the season starts. This smacks the Bats deal when we met the release clause only for Chelsea to activate it a day later This is an example of fans misreading how the game works. Armstrong is in the last year of his contract, so it's really neither here nor there that Southampton may offer more than us. Armstong is essentially now in control because his contract is expiring and he'll go where he wants to. It works like this (example): Southampton bid £25m and Palace bid £20m. Blackburn, of course, say "go talk to Southampton. We prefer the £25m." Armstrong replies, "I want to go to Palace" but Blackburn insist he talks to Southampton. Armstong says to Southampton "of course if you sign me I'll play for you, but I'm not signing a new contract and I'll be leaving (for nothing as a free agent) at the end of the season". Southampton can't convince him to change his mind and conclude "no way we're paying £25m to essentially rent this guy for nine months, then lose him for nothing". Endgame; Blackburn accept £20m from Palace. Armstrong, as I said, is in control. This is no longer, in the last year of a contract, about who will pay the biggest transfer fee. That's why clubs try to renew deals two years before a contract ends; so they don't lose bargaining power. It's now about where Armstrong wants to go because he holds all the cards. Once he's spoken his mind, it'll then be up to his preferred new club and Blackburn to reach a deal. Whether he wants to go to Southampton I don't know but the fact they've made the largest bid is neither here no there.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Adam Armstrong (Rumour)' by becky The problem for Blackburn is he has a sell on clause at 40% to Newcastle.( a bit like us and Zaha) I wonder if they would be interested in a Loan based on a High Loan fee plus a couple of our starlets loaned for a year with all wages paid for the year. This assumes Armstrong would like to join us when he is a free agent at end of year. If he was this would be a winwin as we get First team experience for our young players, a striker more suited to our needs without donating to Newcastle. Blackburn get 2 free loans all salary paid and don't have to pay Newcastle anything

Alan Nixon reckons we won't meet the asking price. Not sure what is going to happen at this point. As I said in my last post, there is NO asking price, or at least not one decided by Blackburn because Armstrong holds all the cards. With his contract out at the end of the season, Blackburn has two choices, both stark. They can take the best offer they get regardless of the price that comes in at, or they can refuse to accept the best offer that comes in because it doesn't meet their valuation in which case they keep the player and lose him for nothing at the end of the season. They're almost certainly not going to do that so at the end of the day, the price will be decided by the market, not by Blackburn. They may well want whatever they want (the nominal "asking price" but they hold none of the cards so what they want is irrelevant. If we want Armstrong, the most important thing in getting him here isn't price or what Blackburn want; it's that he wants to come to Palace. If he does, he's in position to say to Blackburn either cut a deal with Palace, or I'm off next summer for nothing. If that happens, within reason Blackburn will accept any realistic offer. Alan Nixon is wrong because we don't have to meet the asking price to sign the player. Edited by sydtheeagle (05 Aug 2021 1.00pm)

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Adam Armstrong (Rumour)' by becky Blackburn don’t have to do anything. They may not be in a position of power…but neither are we or any other club for that matter. If as suggested there are 3 prem clubs after him then the fee will be high. We may be a slightly better proposition than Norwich or Southampton but only slightly. It’s not like Barcelona have come calling and it’s an opportunity of a lifetime. Blackburn will only accept the highest bid and if that doesn’t come from us he won’t be signing for us. It’s really that simple.

Blackburn get 2 free loans all salary paid and don't have to pay Newcastle anything I'm not sure it works that way. I suspect the sell on clause is based on the player valuation not on how the buying club pays it. Player worth £10m sold for cash Newcastle get £4m Blackburn £6m. Player worth £10m part exchange Blackburn get £5m plus players still have to pay Newcastle £4m so left with £1m. I can't see Blackburn being interested in a player swap with any club.
