Potentially. Although Macca is much better on the ball than given credit for. People just see him as a workhorse. I agree about Luka though. My admiration for him is well documented on here, but he's not quick and he may struggle to keep up. We'll see. True - I am quite probably misunderestimating Macca - he's a baller really and not what I think of as a "hot potato player' - and maybe he's one that is more genuinely pleased by PV approach and release from the shackles of Roy Ball.

Macca's engine is showing signs of wear and tear and he can only do about an hour these days plus he has alway chipped in with a few goals and tellingly he didn't find the net once last season. Hughes is younger good on the ball and can put a foot in too. At the right price would be a good signing

I think his wages may be a problem he's a decent midfielder but if you believe that Watford have offered him north of £50k a week I can't see us matching that for an okay midfielder.

Not sure that least season is a guide though. Not a sufficiently expert viewer to reason this out fully but it felt to me that after the early season splurge where we were tolerably front foot the midfield was around 5 paces behind or so from what you'd expect. Everyone more or less stationed as they were historically but just that telling bit further off goal. My hypothesis was that Eze pushed everyone else back a bit. partly perhaps because there was a need to cover more in defence for him but also because he was notably our best option going forward - discounting Wilf of course. The other factor possibly being we were fielding 4th and 5th choices at CB almost the whole season and we were sitting back more to give extra cover there. It just felt to my non-expert eye that we became a slight parody of ourselves as a Roy team last time out.

Only a couple of days ago you were saying we didn't need another centre mid player and now you are all over Hughes. IMHO this will not happen - his agent is just trying to get the best new contract for his client. If he has been offered £50k by Watford we won't be offering much more.

Will Hughes being linked to us is doing the rounds again today. Wouldn’t be a bad signing in my book.

Would be a very good signing. Knows the league well and would fit seamlessly into our midfield. Not likely to score many but his passing and tackling stats are decent. Definite Macca replacement

He was Marco Silva's first signing at Watford. He acknowledged a few years ago that he needed to add goals to his game but since than has averaged about 2 goals a season.
