Cricket is already suffering from a lack of interest and involvement at youth level Are you sure? When I was younger cricket was the national summer game with footie taking over in Winter but Sky managed to change that. Cricket also suffered when hard up schools sold off their cricket pitches but even so it has still been a popular sport with youngsters and when I go to Test or One Day internationals it's predominantly people in their twenties packing out the grounds. My understanding is that many of the spectators were given their tickets so let's see what happens when they have to start paying

If I had young children I certainly would not be taking them to watch T20 or the 'Hundred'. At the risk of a Willo emoji I like baseball. Since the ball doesn’t pitch but does move and swerve and is often over 100 mph its genuinely hard to hit, especially with a round bat. The fielders’ catching and throwing is wonderful to watch.

The Hundred is on in the pub. Midland Monsters vs Eastern Earthworms or something. Crowd is 70% empty. Delighted by that.

Yes, it's 'one of them'. It draws in new audiences, but possibly dilutes and sport as a whole. A bit like of the these 'influencer' boxing matches that take place now. Sure it's a new angle, brings in massive $$$ and millions of new viewers, but aren't they just shifting the sports away from what people actually enjoyed about them for many decades prior. Edited by BlueJay (23 Jul 2021 12.38pm) The opening game was watched by a peak audience of 1.98 million. Edited by YT (26 Jul 2021 7.38am)

It was on both BBC1 and Sky. I expect that I would be counted as one of the people who watched it despite only watching it for ten minutes

The 'Hundred' is a £300 Mill gamble with the ECB taking a risk by shoehorning a new format into an already crowded schedule.
