Very underrated player. He has been a good servant and a good, not great RB, unfortunately now he has lost his pace and will be ripped to pieces by any fast winger
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Good summary @ TheBigToePunt Joel is a great squad player and should be applauded for his long standing Palace career. I for one was a bit disappointed had we not resigned him, given the fact that he was so close to achieving a testimonial, and quite frankly we had no playable right back on the books come opening day of the season. He'll inevitably take a squad role I'd suspect if ferguson gets fit and shows premier league capability, but until then let's look forward to another 2 more years of Mr Ward's playing in a Palace shirt!

Very underrated player. Agree. He’s a model pro and Mr Reliable. I don’t get this ‘he’ll get ripped up this season’ attitude. People have been saying this the past few seasons but it doesn’t happen because he’s very experienced, has excellent positional sense and reads the game well. He’s not the best going forward, but that’s not his role in the team playing in a flat back 4. He’s a old fashion RB who defends well. Congratulations on the contract, Joel. Well deserved in my opinion, and I hope you can keep up the quality of your performances for a couple more seasons.

Very underrated player. JW is much better than some give him credit for and has been a key part of why we have stayed in the PL these past years. People have short memories. In his early years with us there were many here suggesting he should be playing for England.

Glad to see him stay. The views expressed are balanced. He has some very good days and some not so. I'm sure I'll moan about him on and off..... but that's what us fans do.

I'm delighted that Joel has a new contract. To be regularly selected for a Premier League team over 8 years is a considerable achievement.

A lot of talk for a very simple situation. Ward is on about a third of the wage of the likes of Cahill and Andros and can cover a position that we have no other contracted players for. Therefore given a renewal to his contract to ensure we do and not put pressure on us having to find a replacement. Simples.

Cost £400K from Pompey. Given us 10 years service, which just happens to coincide with our most successful decade ever. Can provide CB cover and his new contract will certainly cost us a lot less than Benteke. I've rarely seen him have a howler and you can see how much he cares when he does make a mistake. Has to be one of the best VFM players in the Premier League.
