It may be a big shout given he hasn't made his debut, but I actually think Hannam might oust Mitchell. The lad exudes confidence, is aggressive in the tackle and gets forward with pace. I hope we get to see the two of them fighting for the shirt next season. Personally I'd say if our budget is limited then there are more important areas of the pitch to focus on than the full-back positions.

His ability on the ball is below the standards in the championship. He had one decent game vs Arsenal but has managed to lose us games single handedly. Perhaps one of the only players that makes me cringe when he’s selected. Ask yourself this…why does he not get a game? Why have we seen unfit players selected ahead of him? Why did a midfielder start ahead of him? He’s never been fancied by the management. He’s not even close to being good enough at this level especially with all the high press tactics around today. Have never seen these games you speak of, where he’s lost us games single handedly. I’m not sure they exist. But I don’t think you get an England cap/play for liverpool by being below championship standard. I can’t remember a time he’s ever let us down. Happy to agree to disagree though.

I can also remember the many groans from fans around me when he came on in a game a couple of years ago, so we're not alone in our opinion of Kelly, an opinion clearly shared by Hodgson and the rest of the coaching team.

All quiet on this Danish lad. Has it fallen through or is it a question of him having to quarantine?

Would we really sign both Nelsson and Guehi? I suppose it would be useful, especially if Cahill's not renewing, but that's a fair old chunk of money spent on the same area of the pitch.

Think we might - am I right in thinking that Nelsson also has history as CDM? That would add to his appeal perhaps. He'd presumably be a CB stand in but there are openings for a CDM with the emphasis on D! An inverse Kouyate in a way. It might come down to what is planned as the inevitable loan move. If Gallagher is out of reach this time as a purchase then that might free up cash for defensive transfers. Looked at in the short medium term (as opposed to the now) we are going to be very short at CB given Tomkins. Originally posted by TheBigToePunt

My guess is Guehi is going to be another Olise - a Dougie signing who has been tracked and scouted endlessly in the Champo - and that is why we have got it done quickly. Agree on flexibility point. Would simply add that our effective number of CBs falls if we add comfort on the ball as a requirement. Just checked re my earlier comment and Nelsson has no real chops as a CDM having only appeared there a very few times early on but so far as I can see he is relatively strong with the ball at this feet. What we buy him with an injury keeping him out for several weeks ?

Ours do as we start the season with loads of centre backs and one by one they seem to fall by the wayside leaving us having to try and fit square pegs into round holes. last season wasn't the first time that it has happened although Kouyate made a good fist of his move from midfield to defence

With Nelsson on board, Victory will be ours! Poke my eye out and cut off my arm if I'm wrong.
