For Brexiteers this is an opportunity to show that we are better alone, and they were completely right. All they have to do is to report and pick the fruit and veg the nation needs, themselves.
What needs to happen is prices rise slightly across the supermarkets and the money goes down to the pickers and workers. Even swivel eyes lefties can’t deny this is a real solution and not cheap foreign labour shacked up in caravans as they lose rent for this accommodation in their wages. What a scam.

I don't think there will be enough demand here, you can't force people to eat what thy don't want. You would think Australia would be at the front of these and green matters, in fact they are woeful. What are you on about.

Which parts of the deal are you unhappy with that will lead to unemployed farmers? Btw, as previously asked, you state you are Pro China, could you share a few policies of the Chinese government you particularly like. Or have you confused pro and anti? Originally posted by Orange1290
There'll be lots of unemployed British farmers after the 'deal' agreed between UK and Australia, perfect resource for picking fruit & veg. Sounds like a masterplan from Johnson and his cronies. Edited by HKOwen (16 Jun 2021 11.37pm)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I think Australia are amongst the biggest suppliers of Halal meat in the world, so a huge market in the UK no doubt.

well, I stayed in Cyprus for a while and many Brits there voted for brexit and then moaned that they were caught not having registered there by the authorities after they had to check after brexit. Lots and lots who never knew what they were voting for. It's definitely more cost effective to live in many other European countries combined with a great quality of life but those seeking to take the UK with them by living in expats bars, streaming UK TV, looking for British food products in the supermarkets (they never, ever go into proper local markets) will fail after a short space of time. Seen lots of that everywhere, they simply can't/have no interest of integrating, never learn any of the local language and then slate the EU and the local country out of frustration. Hilarious! Leaves a lit more space for the rest of us who make an effort! Of course having an EU passport helps a lot Edited by Orange1290 (16 Jun 2021 3.14pm) So you lived in Cyprus after brexit, that's good to hear.

The fact is Australian meat production is pretty much fully sold when produced. Apart from a small amount of high end cuts it is unlikely much will get to UK. Asia and the ME pay higher as their markets can stand it. Don't expect to be inundated with cheap Aussie mince or burgers Originally posted by Jimenez

Nothing to 'dodge' at all. However, irrelevancy, pointlessness and looking for an argument seems to be your speciality. Edited by Orange1290 (17 Jun 2021 9.49am)

I thought as much...... I suppose being asked to actually substantiate something would be considered looking for an argument for some. Never let pesky facts get in the way of opinion Enjoy your bliss Originally posted by Orange1290

Where i used to live in East Sussex, loads of farmers had voting posters FOR Brexit along their hedge field borders. Without exception. A lot of crop/milk producers were being squeezed on price by the big supermarkets, and I know of at least one producer for Tesco who couldn't be @rsed with it any more. All the farmers I know and have met have never been short of a few quid.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

This is what *should* happen, but in reality the big supermarkets hold so much power they won't accept higher prices from their suppliers. For a lot of producers (in the short term at least) this will mean going out of business.
