I Wans't a big fan of that starting lineup but I must admit, Stirling did justify his selection - he had a good game. I just dont get the Fullbacks though. Walker and Tripper? Walker was terrible from minute 1. he was good as the pace in the back 3 system we played last time out, just don't see why he was selected. If you Want to play Trippier for his experience and set piece delivery, just Play him at RB, and Shaw or Chilwell at LB. They must have been perplexed as to how both were left out. I was expecting some major changes at 60 mins, but they didn't come(I guess coz we'd just scored) - we've got some great game changing talent on the bench, in fact our squad is probably one of the strongest in the tournament. We need to use it to our advantage. Take a lesson from Rugby's book - use starters and finishers. To be able to inject 3-4 new players like Grealish, Bellingham + Rashford at 60 mins is a major bonus. especially 'in that heat'. Overall we played OK. First 20 mins was excellent. Looking at other teams, like Italy + Belgium we're still a way off the movement and fluidity needed. The Holland/Ukraine game was a good one - Holland look as entertaining as ever, attacking and beatable and Ukraine look very dangerous, wouldn't want to come up against them. Walker played a few terrible passes - that one to literally nobody which went out for a throw was baffling. Very odd. Southgate's decision to include Trippier was about adding experience and a vocal defender, which he thought we needed in this specific game. That's a very Southgate decision and he obviously considers the psychological dynamics of a game not just purely footballing tactics. I find the approach very refreshing. It was a solid professional performance from England and I'd expect us to improve as the tournament goes on and for the team to be adjusted slightly for each opposition. I love international tournaments - it's nice to have a break from Palace and every game feels like a cup final which is something we don't get to experience very often.

I agree with you about why he played Trippier, but I don't agree that he should have started on the left. it's Trippier OR Walker for me in a back 4. If we can play like we did for the first 20 mins more often, then bring it on. trouble is, once that period had ended we looked our usual bereft of ideas sideways-passing with no decent movement, whose only plan was to chip it over the top and let Stirling run onto it. Professional? not convinced. Our goal included excellent Runs from Stirling and Phillips, and it's encouraging to see that for once we actually did that - I want to see more of it. Perhaps I'm being overly harsh and were we waiting for the right moment but for me the professional thing to do is to kill off this opponent.. they were there for the taking. Yes, we kept them at arms length the whole match, but one bit of class was all they needed to snatch a draw. Do this in the knockout stages at your own peril. Thought Mings was excellent btw, Stones less so - but they complemented each other well. so happy to keep them both in. I Really hope that we don't revert to type when Henderson and Maguire come back in; their replacements were arguably our best 2 players. It's a Good base to work from, and hopefully The most defensive minded we'll see. We've got such a promising bunch of players here, I just hope that we give them game time. Let them express themselves. After all, What's the point of bring all those youngsters if you don't? I do get the thinking behind that lineup(still don't agree with it), but there's no excuse for it now we have the difficult 1st fixture out vs Croats of the way. I want to see us play with endeavour and imagination, go toe to toe with the likes of Italy and France - for more than the first 20 mins of a game. We are capable.

Scotland playing like Brazil (at rugby). Classic Scotland they had chances but couldn't finish them. As for the keeper why was he so far off his line wasn't even in the 18 yard area. He got left off lightly by the BBC who blamed the player who lost the ball. Well Nicola you can look forward to more of this if you ever get independence, having your Czechs bounced or is it Czech mate.

The keeper flapped like a sturgeon out of water. Marshall was well off his line for sure, but you have to hand it to Schick, he hit the ball very sweetly. The goal will be a talking point of the tournament. The sort of thing the media love to see. Pleased to see Scotland lose though. Just hope it ruined Nicola Sturgeon's day. Certainly put her in a flap.

On the subject of the Euros, can anyone explain the talkSPORT ads currently appearing in the press with their presenters covered in what looks like custard? I just don’t get it. Am I missing something?

It amused me that the player the ball came off to go to Schick was credited with an “assist”.
