Even Boris has come out fighting Robinson's corner saying he thinks the ECB have gone too far.

I started this thread because it seemed he was being unfairly punished for silly, youthful behaviour. Something we've all been through.

He didn't know where his life would take him, he's apologised, he now needs to be allowed to play the game he loves.

Common sense has to factor in, or at least should. He was essentially a kid when he made these tweets. Assuming that since that time he hasn't, would that not imply that racism and sexism aren't central to his mind's landscape. Besides in looking at them they were actually crass, immature and offensive across the board (a joke about Gary Speed and Madeleine Mccan too etc). Not revealing of some kind of targeted hatred, which I assume is the implication of how they are now framed.

He's no doubt mixed with a lot more people since then too, during his time in cricket, and so is a different person. People should be allowed to develop without claims that who they were as a silly teenager is more important than who they are now. Unless there is some glaring reason to believe otherwise we should offer benefit of the doubt.

It certainly offers pause for thought in letting your kids create social media profiles though. Old content is no doubt useful for platforms to push ads and create profiles of people but only ever appears to bring the individual creating it trouble. There's little upside for the user.

Nor does it need a quick trawl through social media and finding some excuse to put Robinson back quickly.

The issue here is the ECBs commitment not just its words to the all inclusivity of our cricket.

How has this transpired and how to prevent it being repeated.

The game is far more important than individuals and a major part of British life.

It is very odd that Robinson, who was sacked by Yorkshire for unprofessional behaviour, could get through to the England team so easily and one of the things we may expect in future is vetting of social media records of future england prospects.

Commends to our captain who understands that the game is the important thing.

Imagine if the right in America had treated Muhammad Ali like this.

Ali supported an organisation which celebrated white people dying and regularly called them devils....basically Ali said what he wanted on many issues without fear.

Amercia was far more socially conservative at the time yet it allowed free speech because that's at the core of the country.

This country isn't free, and punishing people for tweets they made as teenagers sums that up.
