Obviously, people are impressed by lies deceit and fake patriotism. Throw in a line or two about foreigners then job done. The seeds for this were sown long before Starmer became leader of the Labour party. I see. So just the wrong kind of electorate then? LOL. Keep on with that line. It's working a treat!

Absolutely. Don't think you can disagree about the lies though, but I appreciate that many don't seem to care. Whatever party one supports, I fear for the hatred that is becoming endemic in this country. What has happened to us?

Gammon (which I love btw), racist, bigot, etc.etc. Constant and never-ending abuse aimed at people who the Labour Party should be desperate to court. If Labour want to win power in the next 3 decades, they need lots of people who voted Leave to switch over to them. And yet you despise them. Utterly loathe them. Throw in all the woke BS (apparently, the latest manifestation is to label pregnant women as 'birthing people', as used by members of the US Congress) and the Left are done. Finished.

Hartlepool result big win for the Tories ""However, the swing to the Conservatives of 16% is more than can be accounted for by the collapse of the Brexit Party. Labour's vote fell 9 points to 29%, so the party clearly lost some of its 2019 support, as well as suffering from the movement of Brexit Party voters to the Conservatives. Part of the explanation may lie in the success of independent candidate, Sam Lee, who won 10% of the vote. "" Labour are at a crossroads Starmer will either use this and the other expected terrible results to push for further reforms or the Union barons will use it to kick him out and go further left.

Just the choice of the candidate Labour put up for Hartlepool, which recorded the highest % vote for Leave, tells you all you need to know about how useless, and out of touch, Starmer is. Labour are not at a cross-roads. They are in a sink-hole that is only growing deeper everyday and until they realise that it is not being helped by their own digging, they are on life-support. If Labour cannot hold Hartlepool, even by a single vote let along that huge margin, it is game over for almost their entire leadership structure.

Edited by Willo (07 May 2021 9.33am) Locals looking good for you already. Some impressive wins as things stand. Can you ever recollect an election day like yesterday when a Government, on the back of being in power for over 10 years, increases its share of council seats? It is quite staggering. Mind-blowing really.

You can sense the Corbynistas itching to describe the Hartlepool voters as thick racists etc etc. The Labour candidate selection was a stroke of brilliance, for the Conservatives. If Labour win the inaugural West Yorkshire mayoral election then there will have to be a by election in Batley which is very winnable for the Conservatives.Laughs. I would be delighted to see Starmer forced to put some of the Socialist Campaign Group in the Shadow cabinet, getting the racist anti semitic band back together. Burgon already calling for 2019 manifesto to be policy and Lloyd Russell-Moyle sending bitchy sarcastic tweets, brilliant.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

And they still don't understand that there is a country with opinions outside London.

The Labour party are in some deep financial merde at the moment and if the TU's threaten to cut off the funding then its game over. Problem for Labour is which way do they go? Yes, Corbyn did bloody well in 2017. But on the back of appearing at least to have a principled position on the back of the Brexit vote. That good-will has been destroyed and there is not a single Left-wing candidate to replace Starmer who did not cheer on the switch to a second referendum position from the roof tops. Andy Burnham is the only possible choice for them. The question is does he want to give up his Mayoralty, where he is predicted to do bloody well when the votes are added up, to take over perhaps the worse job in British politics? And can they even get him in place before 2024 in time to make a difference? Starmer is done. But who else is there from the PLP to replace him? The only one person I can think of is Lisa Nandy who made the right calls on Brexit but has she got the wider nous/charisma to turn it around? The PLP is bereft of any real talent and almost none who are not tainted by evens of the last 5 years.
