Agreed and that is purely of the EU's doing. There is no reason why security co-operation could not continue post Brexit especially as they are cutting themselves off from one of the best intelligence gathering operations in the world.

Talk about cutting off your nose....

The UK left the EU, not the other way around, so the nose cutting was done by the UK.

I suspect that beneath it all, both sides are still sharing all kinds of information. The recent scale of arrests around breaking this Encro Chat encryption is proof of that.

Eastern front on their own?

No, but relevant to France's position, which Russia really wasn't involved in. What was it a year or year and a half until Russia was invaded? I'm thinking Summer of 1941? Poland 39.France early 1940? Something like that.
Although I do agree with your sentiment that most of the beating of the Nazis was by the Russians. The Eastern Front seemed pretty savage to say the least.

Beyond savage. And yes, the USSR certainly bore the brunt of the heaviest fighting although there is always a debate about how it might have fared without the Lend-Lease equipment (essentially the UK and the US sent it vast amounts of supplies in terms of lorries, tinned meat and so on. And interestingly, at least to a history nerd like me, most of it paid for with Spanish gold that the Russians managed to spirit out of Madrid during the Spanish civil war).

But lets not forget the Russia invaded Poland at the same time as Germany, along with massacring over 6000 officers of the Polish Army, along with attacking Finland as well, which at one stage looked like possibly causing the UK to declare war on the Soviets as well).

It does look like the situation is bubbling up to the boil over there.

Macron is the most unpopular President in recent history. I must say I'd be pleased to see him pushed out of power.

He was obstructive in the Brexit negotiations. He has since made an issue of our fishing rights. He was slow to deal with Covid and he was highly critical of the vaccine created here. Nasty, spiteful and jealous little man.

Not surprised his military are considering a coup.

He’s a right little ponce.

Britain was on it's own for two years and was the country that housed and funded De Gaulle and supplied and funded the very limited French resistance. I won't be saying France saved themselves, they couldn't wrestle a Barbie doll. As for Russia not sure what they did for France. Hollywood may be all American but it's BS when you consider it.
The reason I said England was that it's how the French view it. Not trying to put down the rest of Britain and the Empire.

He was talking about security gathering. It is widely known our intelligence services are some of the best in the world, we wanted to continue sharing intelligence, the EU opposed this, and and have therefore lost the cooperation,

When Macron was elected he was hailed as the outsider who was going to reform the French economy, ala Maggie Thatcher.

However one look at his CV and it was obvious that far from being an outsider he was a creature of the establishment. I suspect that French voters are angry because they now realise they were duped.

It's the old shell game the establishment realised that the old guard were under genuine threat from real radical politicians so they created their own version.

He has been inept to say the least. He has failed to pursue radical policies to reform the economy but has also alienated the those who want the status quo.

However by the time of the next election I expect the great and the good to come out with some new wheeze the shell game will continue.

I suspect France would cease to function in a meaningful way for months. Would be kill or cure time for it as a nation state.
