Turkey invaded that area and took it from the Byzantines (fall of Constantinople etc): we in the West used to call Byzantines Greeks. They spoke Greek and followed the Greek text of the Bible. That gives us Greek Orthodox today. So the territory could be modern day Turkey but was not then. I had a feeling George himself was Armenian (if he existed) but that is literally off the top of my head.

Google has him born in Cappadocia. He may have had some Persian blood as well as Turkish.

Bono slithered in somewhere. At least St. Patrick’s day is celebrated with massive booze-ups rather than largely ignored.

It won"t stop you having a few tonight ted for St George I imagine.

St.George cuts across quite a few countries.
A shared saint, as it were.
Ken Brannagh's Henry V is top notch, in particular his speech before Agincourt.
For a Norn Irish man, he does a pretty, pretty good job.
Anyway.." cry, God for Harry, England & St. George ! "

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

Happy St George's Day everyone. I raised a pint at my local... well outside of it. Freezing my tits off in the process.

Nope. Pubs aren’t open here until Monday and I don’t drink indoors.
Got my table booked though and I’ll be hog whimpering guttered in 70 hours time.

I just want to point out not really. From the time he's supposed to be from there was a Greek Roman population. It's not long after Constantine makes the Romans Christian, The Eastern Empire exists until the 13th century or so. Eventually falling to the Muslims - a religion that didn't exist at the time of George.

I bow to your superior knowledge. I’m just going by Google.

It was no dig at you, more a dig at Google. It's like a half truth in this matter, which is funny because the whole thing is probably made up.

They're extinct. We killed them all, mainly just George. The WWF want him exhumed and prosecuted.
I'm sure you can buy dragon bits in China, however, no doubt to help your 'potency'. If they could fit fifty live ones into a cage that would be even better. You could choose the one they will kill for you right there and then. Eat a bit and chuck the rest in the road.
