If this goes ahead then I hope they are kicked out of the Premier league, should they wish to rejoin subject to leaving this so called super league then they can start in league 2.

So far France and Germany have declined to join so this is now a poker game. If this ever gets going I expect they will fall in line once they see the money to be made. No doubt pressure is being brought to bear on those clubs who have not signed up in the hope they will follow on and of course pressure from the other side. If you remember the Kerry Packer saga they started with a few high profile names and gradually more players joined in the days after the announcement. I suspect that the breakaway clubs are hoping for a similar resolution when cricket eventually absorbed the Packer circus back into the official game but took on many of his ideas and innovations. No doubt the SP clubs are hoping they can stay in the PL and the SP. Why are Spurs even in this thing when have they been a Super Club.

Won’t happen. FIFA already touting player bans for World Cup if any teams take part. Simply North Korea / Russia level posturing to get even more favourable terms out of existing bodies and therefore competitions. Because, as we all know, those clubs really could do with the additional money, power and influence. At some point those who have the ownership dollar (and this includes fifa, uefa etc.) need to understand that exponential growth is not possible unless you destroy the entire reason football has become successful in the first place. Things have to evolve, sure. But throwing the baby out with the bath water and filling the bath with cash monai is not the way to go about it.
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

Clearly posturing. They know a 36 team Championship League is unacceptable. They've presented an even worse idea that they know people will be outraged at. Through a bit of manoeuvring, UEFA and the big clubs will roll this back to the original 36 team Champions League idea and get away with implementing it and make it seem like a victory for the original oppenents of the idea. Don't accept either.

An announcement from all clubs participating in this so called 'Superleague' was expected at 9.30pm. It seems as though the backlash has scared them all off. For now.

Football could go anywhere now. One thing for certain is that fans are no longer a concern. Us older ones are very lucky to have enjoyed the atmosphere of packed stadiums. This days are long gone.

But a European Super League is only an extension of the greed that already sets the agenda for football in this country. The Premiership is depressingly predictable anyway, in that of the six English teams that are reputed to be keen on the break-away, only two teams stood a chance of winning the title this year. Next season it's difficult to see Arsenal or Spurs winning the title. Chelsea or Man Utd might get closer than they have this, but it's merely a 'competition' between the super rich. The only question would be how long these top English clubs warranted a place in the new order of things. West Ham might have a view about whether Arsenal, for example, deserved it more. Yes.

I hope uefa and the leagues follow up with what their statements said earlier today. Kick them out of all domestic competitions and ban their player from playing international football!
