I think we all get annoyed by some advertising. I also get annoyed by some advertising censorship, it's a double edged sword depending upon your perspective. However, capitalism isn't there to provide the individual with the very best commercial decision to make. It's there to compete for attention and win market and mind share. The lazy shopper will have cause to regret more than the circumspect one. The very best products rarely need to advertise much anyway. Edited by Stirlingsays (29 Mar 2021 7.09pm)

We've just spent days searching on-line for a sideboard, and ended up buying one from a single-shop furniture store, and didn't even bother to search furniture chains. Add to that, you get a certain exclusivity too. Of advertised stuff, we recently bought a Vax cordless vaccy. Well pleased with it - good design, good build and works well. There you go; recommendations - the best advertising.

If any of you tune into Talking Pictures TV you will come across some dire adverts. JML products seem to be responsible for a large number of them. They basically consist of an over enthusiastic voice over who repeats the same information several times over for the duration of three minutes or more, until you are looking for the nearest brick to hurl at the screen.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

There is wisdom in consumer groups and 'word of mouth'....because cowboys and their products are out there as we all are occasionally made aware of. We should probably have a thread on good deals and quality service. Edited by Stirlingsays (30 Mar 2021 3.35pm)

Rhymes. Endless rhymes. Every advert on TV seems to have to rhyme these days. And always very bad rhymes and bad scansion that sounds like it was written by a dyslexic three year old on heavy barbiturates. Just f*****g stop it! Edited by buzby1 (30 Mar 2021 4.31pm)

And who can't be thoroughly pissed of with ads that advise that typically, but not exclusively, kills 'up to 99.9% of germs', or '...99.9% of grey'. Well isn't everything up to 99.9% effective?

Edited by Stirlingsays (29 Mar 2021 7.09pm) The very best well established brands and products rarely need to advertise, yes. Because of course, they don’t need brand building and brand awareness advertising. But if they’re new then you’ll find them advertising to their target markets of higher spenders and socioeconomic groups using targeted advertising strategies and media. It would be interesting to hear of any brands that have never advertised and aren’t local or small one shop retailers. A lot of advertising is because the competition advertise. Or trying to gain market share the when the one with the bigger market share will just advertise more in response, unless the advertising campaign is particularly clever. Intelligently thought out ones or just the Pepsi challenge.
