I don't agree. All words are just words. The power of a word is what we assign to it. It is a personal choice. So if I didn't find something offensive I could go against the accepted norm and say what I like to anybody until their reaction told they found it offensive?

As a culture we can choose to be more or less sensitive to words. Right now I believe that we are heading down the wrong path of oversensitivity and over reaction. This is about the mixing of cultures and the politics thereof.

If a jack booted skinhead with swastika tattoo called me (what I would deem to be) a racially offensive word I'm fairly confident he/she would be using it as he/she viewed my worth as a human to be zero sub human if you like, now that would I think quite rightly P!ss me off. Now if someone else uses that word against me and doesn't have the same outward appearance how would I know that the meaning isn't the same as it very well could be and in my opinion is likely. Should I just shrug that off even though the core of who I am has been insulted. Isn't this the same as online abuse of footballers?

No because some white and black footballers are sometimes f***ing useless and are told so by their own fans. I ask whether black ones are above criticism because they're black. This appears to be Freds take on it. The notorious BIG seems to like the word ****** as now you know. Edited by cryrst (24 Mar 2021 9.11pm)

How you react to abuse is your own decision, albeit triggered by an emotional response. My issue is that we encouraging people to react to abuse and play the victim when what we should be doing is removing the power of insults and the culprits by minimizing the importance of both. All the time we make a big deal of it, abuse will keep happening with greater frequency. You also have to appreciate that as a White person I am sick of hearing about racism on my TV every day. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (24 Mar 2021 9.56pm) So correct me if I'm wrong but you think my reaction to racist abuse and black footballers response to online abuse is invalid because it just elicits an oversensitive emotional response, but your feelings about how racism is reported in the media (which isn't even abuse) is not being oversensitive and your emotional response to is perfectly valid?

Nope where would I see those? I don’t even think I’d be allowed to post the screenshots here, but there’s a twitter account @CPFCWill who has posted them.
