A bit further afield I recall some pleasant visits to Chislehurst in the 'Tigers Head' and 'The Bull', also the 'Bickley Arms'. My word, there used to be many pulchritudinous young ladies in these establishments ! Such pleasant memories! Edited by Willo (01 Mar 2021 12.56pm) not sure if ive the correct name, but 'the bricklayers' facing the Odean cinema on the roundabout.(beckenham)

In actual fact I was not enamoured with going to see the film and after a beer or two in the 'Bricklayers' I made it clear that they would be going to see the film on their own as I wished to continue imbibing accordingly I was certainly NOT 'Mr Popular' ! I suppose it depends if your a towny or a country boy. I’m the latter, left Croydon in 1987. I could never go back to living in a town or city but do have mates who would never leave, “I don’t want grass and trees “ they tell me. I love a rural life, I still have my season ticket and travel up for all home games and that’s the only reason I go to Croydon.

This Once apon a time I loved Croydon,Back in the days of Alders/Debenhams/Grants/Beano's/Remy's/Scamps/The Odeon/Abc/The Focus/Cinatra's/The cartoon/The old Surrey street market was a good place to live. Now dont really like coming back unless it's for a Palace game.

Oops I forgot, if I want to go Croydon, its about 60 kms from where I live. I would'nt be happy there though, its just a little town with a supermarket and a highway running through it.

I have this impression of you Willo as being some kind of elderly country squire, a bit like Colonel Mustard, but realise that these were the same places that I used to go to so I have done you an injustice with your perceived age!

Back in my yoot, I rarely ventured past the Coach and Horses / Three Tuns, so if I got as far as the Bricklayers I was really on it !

Well said. We also have an enormous park that links to the hills with their great viewpoint. And the trams work well But hey, the HOL wouldn’t be the HOL without loads of moaning, especially about the younger generation. TBF can’t see anyone on this thread moaning about the younger generation. I loved my upbringing in Thornton Heath and had some great times. However I am not ashamed to say I am glad I made the decision to start a family away from the area.
