It’s the rubbish service to the forwards which starts from a poor defence that plays to deep. They also can’t play the ball out from the back as their passing is either to slow or no one makes a quick enough space for them to pass to. There’s no movement which finally results in a hoof upfield which opponents then win and put us straight under pressure. Then we have a slow ageing team for which our football in the past with a younger team resulted in strong defensive play at the back and midfield for which we had some pace to hit teams on the break. Under Hodgson it’s always been difficult for our lone striker because we concentrated on defending first. However for some unknown reason (perhaps to accommodate Eze) he plays more attackers with some in midfield who just can’t defend. Hence, we are over run by opponents hitting us from so much space we now give them. Hodgson could go back to playing defensively which will mean Eze, Ayew; Bats, Benteke and Mateta competing for the lone striker role. In truth I see no place for Eze under Hodgson as we need 3 central midfielders with Townsend or Schlup on the right and Zaha on the left of midfield. It’s a shambles at the moment and I don’t see it changing :-(

But how when that is not the common trend? Benteke, Batshuayi, Sorloth, Bamford all have proven at other clubs that they can score and play too. But they've come to palace (under hodgson) and that changed. There has to be something in the decision making of management that is limiting the ability of these players when on the pitch for us. Benteke was decent at Villa 7 years ago did nothing at Liverpool, Bats has achieved nothing at Chelski hence he’s here doing exactly the same. Sorloth a decent season in Turkey Div1 standard and now anonymous as RBl , Bamford has taken 3 or 4 years learning his trade in the Championship prior to this season. We are not limiting Bats or Tekkers ability .. they don’t give a f apart from the £

Defence sits too deep with and without the ball. Midfield does not get forward, does not support the attack. This is all down to the Hodgesaurus I am afraid - 1980s Inter Milan - it worked then, should work now. 0-0 on a bad day, 1-0 on a good day. Unfortunately our players are now too old, constantly injured, and most recently have become totally unmotivated. Step in SP and sort for next season. Duck the issue and we will be relegated next season.

Hopefully with Wilf And Schluppie back soon we can revert to 4231 again which seemed to be working although Androes is one of the three. There are enough points to survive and too many below us for us to go down. I HOPE. Oops nearly forgot. We need either someone at the club to pick a few uncut gems for us, a couple to come out of the juniors, a bit of luck holding on to Wilf or some of the older players to stay fit for a bit longer than this season. Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course). |
