My parents had a static years ago, it was ok. They got shot of it, after they started to be basically held to ransom by the site owner. The fees just kept going up and up, if you dont pay it gets towed off the site. The problem you may own the caravan, but you dont own where it stands, so a bit pointless. A mobile is better option, but you need to be small.

static caravans are only habitable for around 8 months a year.(check site for details) Know lots of people whose sites are open all year round and the static caravans even have central heating.

Its down to choice, if you want to go to the same place every holiday, fine. Static caravans = Money pit.

i would be happy to pay 3 grand a year to stay at the Ritz, eat Lobster thermidor and do Scarlett Johansson. While watching Tyson Fury thump some american heavyweight on the telly. And languishing in the jacuzzi. but to pay 3 grand a year for the right to cast my shadow over a few square meters of grass ? sounds like daylight robbery to me.

It’s all relative to how many 3 grands, you have the ability to pull in, per year.

A static caravan site has many good aspects, but also some large pitfalls. My uncle used to live in one near Herne Bay in the 1970's. I think he went abroad a lot diving, and maybe they had different contracts back then. Edited by Forest Hillbilly (31 Oct 2020 2.52pm)

Beware the small print in the contract should you ever want to sell, we had many years ago a lovely static at Crowhurst Park near Battle but tired of it after a few years and the park took a huge fee to sell on , cant remember the exact percentage but around 7% ish. I compared the depreciation to buying, for example a Merc S class petrol great to drive but you will lose loads in fees, depreciation and costs. That said it was great for a few years whilst the children were small..
