Know lots of people whose sites are open all year round and the static caravans even have central heating.

Central heating, double glazing , remote control fire, cable tv. Even running water

i would be happy to pay 3 grand a year to stay at the Ritz, eat Lobster thermidor and do Scarlett Johansson. While watching Tyson Fury thump some american heavyweight on the telly. And languishing in the jacuzzi.

but to pay 3 grand a year for the right to cast my shadow over a few square meters of grass ? sounds like daylight robbery to me.

It’s all relative to how many 3 grands, you have the ability to pull in, per year.

A static caravan site has many good aspects, but also some large pitfalls. My uncle used to live in one near Herne Bay in the 1970's. I think he went abroad a lot diving, and maybe they had different contracts back then.
3 years ago I took my mate to move some stuff from a caravan park on the South coast. As I sat outside the security gates in my van, one busy-body 'old boy' resident took it upon himself to ask "If he could help me".
I told him I was fine, and he could go about his business without further disturbing me.
So I guess what I'm getting at, is make sure your caravan site is of similar-minded people. If it's something like a Club 18-30, a place with Kids clubs, or a place of geriatric busy-bodies.
And the devil is in the details of any contract. There are reasons there are vacancies on many sites.

Beware the small print in the contract should you ever want to sell, we had many years ago a lovely static at Crowhurst Park near Battle but tired of it after a few years and the park took a huge fee to sell on , cant remember the exact percentage but around 7% ish.

I compared the depreciation to buying, for example a Merc S class petrol great to drive but you will lose loads in fees, depreciation and costs.

That said it was great for a few years whilst the children were small..
