This could be an amazing bargain, Butland played for England and virtually kept Stoke going single-handed. But like his club the championship has not gone well. Like Clyne if he can be resuscitated it will be great. Hoping it goes through tonight.

If Butland can be revived to the same extent as Ayew and Mccarthy (who nobody else wanted either) then this is an absolute steal.

McCarthy was a different kettle of fish as he was always a good player but the risk was that having been out of the game for so long with a bad double fracture he might have lost it - but he hadn't
