Just awful and I'm in shock to be honest. I knew the officer involved and worked with them for a number of years at Croydon. Just unbelievable. Sorry to hear that.

For someone to shoot a copper and then shoot themselves sounds more like mental health case than the usual gangster stuff (not that they're mutually exclusive to each other). Sure we'll learn more in the next day or so, but it's far from the typical pattern that usually gets the headlines around young people with guns. Yes probably used as a reason for no change and no ‘stop n search’

Yep. A failed state. Had to be bailed out by central Government and effectively a new CE imposed on it. Drove through West Croydon yesterday for the first time in years and it is utterly f***ed. Entire borough on its knees. And RIP to that poor Police Officer. The council is mainly to blame. Absolute mismanagement. As for West Croydon, it's really not that bad. Unless you get intimidated by the high street being full of, how might you put it, 'ethnics'. Seems to be where that crude, drive by observation has come from. I live 10 minutes walk from both WC and EC station. Yes Croydon has it's issues but from your closed curtain, shire based, outsider narrative anyone would think I'm going to get shot and mugged every time I step outside my house. Complete dross

Dream on. There will be a lot of backtracking from previous anti police comments. I see Dawn .Butler is leading the charge.

Complete dross I know what you mean, I have never been intimidated in Croydon (although my brother in law was mugged). However, there is no denying the murder statistics. Let's face it, it is black on black, but no one allowed to say it. RIP to the officer and sincere, heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues.

This sort of thing will probably accelerate that approach, although it would have been better to have come before rather than after this. I've only had two attempted mugging experiences, the last one was in Chaldon in 2001. Epicentre of petty and casual crime, the shires.

The Reverend Catherine Tucker, who was at the centre earlier, said: "The action taken against the police is really unacceptable but I also feel sorry for the perpetrator. "Sadly, I am not surprised there has been a shooting in Croydon. "There are tensions between the police and young people particularly in relation to stop and search and the way the police relate to the community."

Don’t believe this is in the news yet but scary times for Croydon, if true.

Compare Croydon now to Croydon in the 1960s and '70s. Different planet now. Glad we left.

take a look at the property heatmap below. Look at all of Greater London. Now and please explain to me why Croydon is just about the least hot place on the property map. Numbers don't lie. Buyers are reluctant to invest in Croydon compared to most of Greater London. Do crime levels contribute to this phenomenon ?
