I'm interested to know whether people on HOL think this is a nice place, especially on the Politics board. HOL in general isn't bad but the politics section is toxic with too many right wing extremists holding sway there. I resigned as a moderator a few months ago as I didn't want to be associated with right wing extremists and took a three month holiday from HOL altogether only returning to discuss incoming transfers although the sniping in that section is pretty bad too. It's noticeable that with the exception of Mr Funt all of the mods that have resigned disappear never to be seen again. Having said all of that the BBS is considerably worse and although a long standing member there I don't post much and restrict my viewing to their Transfers forum during the relevant windows but I also keep an eye on the "Academy" thread which has a couple of contributors who seem to know what's going on there

Who cares what any of the morons on the BBS think? They largely represent a cross section of society who for one reason or another wish to undermine Britisness or live in a delusionary world of idealism. Mostly, they are just a clique of bored nobodies who like to bully other people on line for sport.

You pick your poison and all that. BBS is more inclined to wield a ban hammer which is certainly a negative, but both sites are excessively hostile and critical of views that do not adhere to a very narrow train of thought. Group polarisation in full flow.

That's the tit and tat problem. I would propose that both statements would be at least partially wrong as there are good people on both sites. And if we're saying that there aren't, all that means is that anyone in either place that doesn't tow a boring one tone line just doesn't feel inclined to contribute anymore, and there is probably at least some truth to that also.
