There are now 800 peers who are eligible to sit in the House Of Lords the US senate has 100. It's not just the cost to the taxpayer many of the Lords are politicians who were kicked out by the voters so just when you thought you had seen the back of them they pop up again. Then there are people like the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Chief Rabbi and leaders from others faiths. If they want to mix politics and religion they should stand for Parliament no other democracy allows this nonsense. We should have an elected upper chamber with fixed numbers probably around 300. They should be based on regions to ensure that all parts of the UK are represented fairly and voted for using PR. It's time to end the gravy train. The House of Lords should be moved to somewhere like the Lake District or the North East. There is no reason it needs to be in Westminster, members treat it as a social club with free parking for London shopping and they get paid £300 a day just to sign in.
