All I'll say is where was the outcry when these shows etc first came out?? To play devils advocate I would say that a moment in time does not reflect perpetuity. That said in the history of comedy, I view it to be a contortion that the likes of Bo Selecta and The Mighty Boosh are seen as displays of racism.

If they use black and Asian actors to play these characters then there would never have been a problem, it would just be people taking the mickey out of themselves instead of being seen as racist and insulting.

I want to see Lenny Henry stripped of his knighthood for impersonating Frank Spencer. I'm highly offended.

If you follow that logic to the end it means that characters can only be portrayed by actors with the same characteristics e.g. a handicapped actor can only play a handicapped character. I thought the point of acting was for the actor to play somebody other than themselves.

I recall reading about David Bowie playing John Merrick in a stage production of 'The Elephant Man' where he conveyed the character's predicament using mime alone. Tell that to today's luvvies!

Tell that to today's luvvies! I forgot to mention that recently it's not enough to demand that a black person play a black character they have to be the same skin tone as well. A number o black actors have been criticised because they have a lighter skin tone that the real life person they were portraying. Ad nauseam...

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

An apology from the grave would be something! Larry also blacked up as Muhammad Ahmed aka 'The Mahdi' in the 1966 classic movie 'Khartoum'.
