I have a friend whose wife bought some clippers to keep the dog tidy. She was eyeing up his Barnet and after a while convinced him to let her have a bash at it.
I asked how it went.
He reckons it looks like he’s got a saucer on his head.

Many years ago when one used to ask for a specific style at the barbers EG Boston, short back and sides etc there was a young chap I knew who had a rather bizarre and unconventional haircut.
I enquired as to what he asked for at the barbers and he instantly replied "The usual".

DIY job with a beard trimmer. Mine's always been pretty short so it's not too difficult to manage.

I feel for anyone trying to sport a pompadour in this day and age.

Guessing you are a Kelsey Park survivor then. I seem to remember he got expelled and then latter asked back to do a concert to raise funds for a school football trip

Survivor indeed it was the worst school in Bromley and eventually was shut down due to poor grades. When I went it had no proper sixth form and kids did not go to university.

Not all the teachers were bad but the culture amongst the kids was not aspirational more laziness and disruptive. Still some of us bucked the trend and emerged with some qualifications despite that.

It did teach me one thing self reliance. I realised very early on that no one was going to give me much help in life.

It's why I have little time for BLM the opportunities are there you have to want them and that takes hard work. My classmates didn't do much homework I did 2 hours a night and 5 hours at the weekend.

My parents never gave me pocket money so I also had a paper round 7 days a week and a Saturday job at Lord John . I was never the brightest but I just worked harder than the other kids. I know what being poor meant so that was my incentive, my mum pushed me all the time "get a job in an office, get a mortgage".

Education is the silver bullet, these days certain groups don't want to inspire their kids to great things they want to lower the bar and make it harder for those with white privilege whatever that means.

I spent my career in corporate banking most of my work colleagues went to private or grammar school and then Oxbridge. I never resented them it's not their fault they were born into wealth and they still had to work hard to get their degrees and then make a career for themselves.

No one said life is fair the best you can hope for is equality of opportunity.

I used to go to Lord John in Lewisham quite a bit and had a store card when I started work - £3 a month for £72 credit which kitted me out back then. Lord John for strides and shirts and Faith’s for shoes, especially Loafers.

Bit of a dodgy company kept going bust and changing its name, Baron John was another. I worked in the Bromley store the clothes were okay, Primark standard.

My dear wife offered to borrow some clippers from her friend to lop my hair.
I rejected her offer out of hand even before I was informed that these were clippers that her friend used to shear her dogs!
