Yet another that takes me back. I saw Brubeck playing that at Fairfield Halls must have been 50 years ago

I haven't listened to it for years, too many nobodies on it these days, one of my faves was Oliver Postgate, heard Kirsty on Steve Wright saying guests shouldn't just pick great songs but more songs which were milestones in their lives - I should therefore include Sit Down by James as my uni song, but I am happy with my list.

Some people on there choose music to make them look good, ie claiming they can’t live without John Coltrane when they’d prefer Barbie Girl. A bit like when asked what they’re reading claim to be “re-reading Proust” or some other worthy tome They’re reading something impressive without appearing philistine enough not to have read it before.

Oliver Postgate had one of the greatest voices ever.

I hate to think what anyone on here would make of my choices. Number 1 would be Beethoven's 7th symphony. And I won't bother you with the rest.

Having trawled through this thread, I've found only one choice that I've even heard of - "Glad all over". No wonder so many of my posts on this site are in the Nostalgia section! 'nuff said.

Agree, songs should mostly have additional meaning because as that also facilitates decent exploratory interviews.Too many strange guest choices nowadays that i feel the programme is losing it's edge, veering away from it's USP. Iam also yet to warm up to Lauren Laverne as the new presenter!

A recent guest i enjoyed listening to is Chris Riddell an illustrator& political cartoonist.Great song choices and an uncustomary story to tell.
