Nature is nature, I don't attribute any sentient ways. A major weakness to human dominance is the fact that terrible viruses can spread so quickly (via a myriad of pathways), before we have time to react.
The current pandemic may allow our species to be better-prepared for the next one.

If we knew what it was we could have a vaccine ready. This one is unknown as it apparently is normal in bats. Alcohol that's the answer looking at recent sales

Asbestos was the material of the future to be put in all buildings car brake pads/ clutch plates.
Coal was a booming industry, and hardly any welsh children died.
You could still buy coal-tar soap (full of carcinogens)
The oil crisis, when we thought oil was running out,....then we found a shed-load more.

ah the good old days....

a man in a working-class job could support a whole family and buy a home.

between the ages of 15 and 45 there was one male for every one female. Of the general population. A lot less of the Sweden-demographics than now.

IMHO, within 20 years China will be the global economic, manufacturing and development leader.

The number of clever people who work hard and study as much as they can will make this happen.

People rightly condemn the wet markets and some of the current habits of many Chinese but don't be lulled into thinking those stereotypes are typical.

Most of the Chinese tourists we get in Hong Kong are basically peasants but they're not the ones from Huawei

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I agree, but we can't expect Turkey and Greece to bear the entire burden for example in the case of Syria.

Merkel has a lot to answer for as do the open border socialists who simply want more future Labour voters to pour in.

It is pretty much the working definition of the Dublin Convention, which was encoded into national law of all EU members (without a vote in any of their parliaments, of course) as an EU regulation.

It is the responsibility of the first EU state a refugee enters to register them.

Russian nationalism won't matter. They will be hit hardest of all - if they were pre-empting the virus with any vigour, we'd all know about it.
It will trigger a new Russian Revolution; and there's only one person they'll blame - Tsar Vladimir.

The Russians have sent a plane load of ventilators to New York. Does this mean they are very well prepared for the virus?

Perhaps some from the following? ... house prices will fall, taxation will go up, pay will be frozen, the bankers and rich will be temporarily poorer but they'll still buy up everything while it's cheap, there will be more appreciation for the lower paid but society won't be able to do naff all about it so the poor stay poor, the government (or preferably someone clever) will have to rethink how the NHS is going to function going forward, there'll be another argument over Brexit, on a personal note, I'm asking Ocado for a backdated refund of my monthly 'Smartpass' subscription (cos they are ing useless!) and is there honey still for tea?
