The 75% threshold would also be particularly pertinent because for a number of the EPL teams, they have only played 28 games of the 38 due to be played (73.68%). (The EFL teams do look to have just hit the 75% threshold of games played for each league.) I can see more potential for mass litigation if they try to apply the 75% of games played formula instead of simplifying matters by saying the season wasn’t finished or even close to being finished and therefore the season has been abandoned and all league standings declared null and void. As unsatisfactory as this scenario might be I see it being less unsatisfactory than teams being relegated as it stands, with games in hand on those around them and with some teams having played opponents in the top six twice and others only once. Unless of course, this 75% formula was in the EPL & EFL rules at the start of the current season. Even then one would imagine that this would only apply if all teams had played the same number of games. Of course there is also the potential for this unfolding Pandemic to get so bad in both economic and mortality terms that the outcome of a football league position becomes so blatantly irrelevant that the governing body write the season off and draw a line under it.

Never mind what's happening in the real world, what about the HOL prediction league? I'm handily placed in 23rd and I've still got my joker to play

Well of course my travel insurer has! I have an annual multi-trip policy last renewed in July 2019 which specifically states that it will not reimburse airline ticket costs if a trip is cancelled for reasons of epidemic and pandemic. Needless to say, I have tickets that will not be reimbursed if travel is not possible for this reason Originally posted by Rudi Hedman
Who else has planned for a world pandemic disease? Things like that often cost money and are usually laughed out of the room.

If the flights are cancelled then the airline or provider should refund you the cost of the ticket as they are not providing the service you have paid for. It shouldn’t come down to insurance in the first instance. I hope you get this sorted.

The flights are not until the end of July so things may yet resolve. We are booked with Thai Airways who are still merrily running two flights per day to and from London, with the Thai authorities putting all arrivals from Europe into quarantine for 14 days; that wouldn't bother us as we have a house there with a nice pool and are planning to stay for 6 weeks In response to Badger, not sure where I stand with the credit card as payment was made to an agency and not directly to the airline .... Anyway, slightly off topic for this thread! Originally posted by Phil’s Barber

The biggest question in my mind is what happens to relegation / promotion teams. For which, there is an answer. No teams get relegated, but the top 3 of each division get promoted. This would leave the premier league with 23 teams for next year, but every other league is the same # (except for the lowest league). The league cup is then cancelled for premier league teams, so they can play more premier league games. Possibly too, the FA cup they don't enter until another round later. As far as relegation the following 3 years - should be 4 relegated - that goes for each league until the PM is back at 20 teams.

Interesting suggestion, it may be a solution for the premiership but one solution doesn't fit all. For example, look at the League One table. If you took Oxford United as the third promoted team, I am sure that at least five other teams would commence legal action. Not least Wycombe Wanderers who have played a game less than the others around them. Originally posted by Daddyorc

All im saying is, what happened the last time the EPL reduced the league from 22 teams to 20. IMilburn, if you've only booked flights only, they are NOT ATOL protected & if your insurance already wont pay out, as someone else has stated, you could claim with your CC/DC provider

Had this idea, but probably needs a bit of work. This season is frozen until this time next year or slightly earlier then restarted so that the games are roughly being played at the right time of the year. Then if this goes on through the summer it wouldn't be a problem.
