I was there. In the Homesdale. Then the United lot started lobbing bricks down on us from up the back. Was like a war zone. But we thrashed them.

I was on the Holmesdale too. I left a bit early when the bricks started flying and missed our 5th goal.

If I remember rightly We played Everton last game of the previous season and him and Mel Blythe both got sent off for fighting. Within a few months they were getting pi@@ed together in Dr Jim's in Croydon. Nice Guy used to drink at the Social Club up at Netherne Hospital where I think he used to work after he packed up playing.

I was standing in the old stand - amazing first ten minutes to a fantastic match.

Mel Blyth who had a predilection for passing back to the goalkeeper in the days when goalkeepers could pick up the ball from such a pass without being penalised.

He played for Southampton the FA Cup Semi-Final at Stamford Bridge in 1976 when we were defeated 2-0.

I believe I last set eyes on him in 'Kember's Wine Bar' in Croydon many years ago.Blyth will be 76 later this year.

I had a chat to Mel outside Tescos in Purley a couple of years back (possibly more). He had some storys of that era to tell, he claimed an assist for the last goal.

I might be wrong but I thought the trouble was in the cup tie against Everton at Selhurst in January.

Actually could be right. That would make more sense.
