Lawrenson came in for some flak on this board a few years ago. I can't remember why, but I do recall pointing out that when Goldberg had guided us into administration in 1999, Lawrenson had joined around 1000 Palace supporters in donating £1000 to a Supporters' Trust fund-raising exercise.

In the end a meaningful amount couldn't be raised and everyone got their money back, but I can never dislike Lawrenson after that (yes, I know - £1000 was nothing to him, but still a gesture of moral support). The person who emerged from that event with my detestation was David Mellor, who mocked and rubbished the Supporters' Trust's efforts on radio.
