I suspect that if comes to Palace, the club would agree to a 10 million buyout clause if a 6 months loan is successful. I think Schalke prefers that too. They'll have a hard time getting 10 million from somewhere other than the Premier League after they've frozen him out. 10 million would have been a small price for him 1 year ago, he was playing really well in Germany. But now...it's a bit big. If he were to settle in though, it would be decent for a 25 year old player. If they'd accept Meyer for the 10 million would be even better. He played there. Not sure if they want him though, but some German Bundesliga club out of 18 should pay 10 million for Meyer (at least recoup the salaries invested in him). I think Bentaleb is one of the Top 10 best central midfielder choices the club could make. There are also James Milner, Matuidi and Aranguiz who are ending their contracts in the summer and could be brought in free with all of their experience, but also the younger Aleix Garcia, Bazoer, Mathis Jensen, Swift, Michorl, or even some free experienced players. No chance Meyer will be going back to Schalke as any part of the deal. He left on bad terms and still has some beef with some of the big wigs in their set up. In general Meyer has a pretty low reputation in Germany as a player who moved for money over career development - and in football terms that hasn't panned out too well just yet. Unless there's some rapid development he'll have to take one hell of a pay cut with his next move. I do think he's a good player but needs to be part of the right set up/ and maybe the right league. Anyway like you say 10m for Bentaleb this time last season would have been an absolute steal. Originally posted by mattteo
