My point was people don't seem to change their opinion even when the other side argue their case well. So how likely is someone who has a deep belief in their cause going to change their mind.

Some will but I suspect most won't.

That's the thing tho, you are right, most people wont because they are too afraid to say or do anything because they could find themselves arrested or abused by people who have 'liberal' views than themselves.

IMO, we have, in this country, been far to tolerant to immigrants & their nationalistic/religeous views which has impacted on our own values, traditions &, yes our religion. I appreciate that some people on here will shoot me down depending on their own view, fair enough.

Why do we & the country as a whole HAVE to bow down to other views, religion & customs? This is Great Britain FFS(or maybe not anymore)

I also feel for the officers involved with the actual shooting, as ive already mentioned on another thread, I sincerely hope in years to come they are not charged for their heroic actions like the Para's & vets have ongoing.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Surprised by the intellectual debate. I was wondering how much one bullet costs?

The assumption needs to change somewhat for radicalised terrorists. Just reading that the guy's lawyer thinks he might have been deceived.

Quite ironic for a lawyer to say that.

Much as I am for hanging and flogging it's not going to happen.

We can however change the rules around deportation of of foreign criminals. When sentencing a judge should automatically order a criminal is deported at the end of the sentence this becomes the default state rather than the authorities having to initiate it.

Whilst he is serving his sentence he can appeal but at the end of his sentence he is deported, if the appeal process is still going on he can appeal from the country where his has been sent.

The basis of any appeal has to be to prove that the individual is a fit and worth person to remain in our society rather than society having to prove that the person is a danger.

This would mean changes to the Human Rights law by way of adding a "responsibilities and duties" clause

This won't solve all problems but its a start.

Do you have a list of countries to hand who would take one of these people?

Take a Muslim of pakistani origin. They would not have him unless he carried a pakistani passport. Otherwise why would they take a bloke born and bred in Britain with a terrorism criminal record? Doesnt matter what our courts order pakistan immigration will turn him back.

in principle I like the idea but it is fraught with logistical challenges which I fear are insurmountable.

They will take him for money.....We'd do what we need to do.

Money makes the world go around and we have a lot more of it than pakistan has......That's why so many of them are over here.

Tristan de Cunha is pretty empty.

The idea of once a terrorist always a terrorist is misguided.

Moreover like ex gang members who would you listen to to abandon your beliefs? An ex believer who looks and sounds like you or some well meaning liberal white bloke like me?

Throwing away the key is definitely the best route for some but not all.

You'd have thought that with the intelligence tools the security services have at their disposal - a realistic risk assessment ought to be possible.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Lawyer probably worried about his potential liability to some kind of prosecution or other sanction.
