I think I was about 6 or 7. I was kind of aware of it but my parents probably deemed it unsuitable to watch.

People used to think itv was unsuitable, common or low brow. They should now too. Waste of advertising revenue to entertain probe and encourage them and more of them to sound thick.

Also fond memories of Round the Horne, I’m Sorry I’ll Read that Again, Hello Cheeky, The Navy Lark and doubtless several other radio shows.

Round the Horne sailed VERY close to the wind on numerous occasions.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Yes it did. Supposedly because most people didn’t understand what they were saying. Certainly true with Julian and Sandy.

And the first mobile phone call in Britain was made by Ernie Wise.
Slightly odd casting for Reg Varney in On the Buses since he was already 53 when it started so not the prime candidate to play a bird chasing Jack the Lad.

I was born in 1994 but I can’t stand the comedy shows of today. The comedy programmes of the 20th century are so much better and I never get tired of.
I’ve been watching Only Fools and Horses since I was 5 years old and still laugh at it to this day.

I started to watch Steptoe and Son last year which I quite enjoy, plus I watched all 3 series of Porridge this year which is a work of a genius.
The other classics I like that always cheer me up whenever I’m feeling down just to give some examples are Fawlty Towers, Morecambe and Wise, Blackadder (Third and Fourth series), Tommy Cooper and many more.

spot on my son, some Alan Aykborn plays have some of that quality you appreciate, I'd add Leonard Rossiter for rising damp and reggie perrin, the likely lads has lost a bit with age but was aiming high, and porridge as you say is pure gold, I cud watcher barker and Beckinsale or rigsby and miss jones all day long, but peep show and the inbetweeners are classic tv, there are some great comics now too but they are getting a bit long in the tooth the mertons, the murrays and the reeves's

they've been showing Reg starring as a drag act in 'The Best Pair of Legs in the Business' on freeview lately, one of those films that's so bad it's good, willam shatner level, gob smackingly awful but utterly compelling
