Oldest Living Former Palace Player

My slight memory of Len Choules is of a highly polished centre half who could read the game to perfection, I seem to recall he had a long spell injured and was replaced by Gwyn Evans. That was in the season when Johnny Byrne was in his early prime and we went up from Div 4 as runners-up to Posh. Petchey was excellent in the Number 6 shirt, tough tackler who scored a few goals from long range. My hero was Vic Rouse in goal. I hope he’s still going strong - or as strong as can be expected.

I was just 3 years of age when Rouse signed for Palace.

As I first went to SP in about 1953 I saw all the players mentioned, as well as many, many others, play. Too many memories to mention them all but my personal favourite was Alfie Noakes taking penalties. Tony Collins was always a good watch too.
