My youngest son is also autistic but unfortunately he is the opposite of you as he has learning difficulties

Possible. Never been told. i just assumed it was learnt behaviour. As an adult the path to late diagnosis is virtually non existant in this country. Mine came around by accident due to my former boss sending me to countless doctors to try and (his words) cure,my already diagnosed mental health issues.
Anyway,i still think Greta is being used and the people behind her are using her condition to their ends.

When we are the unlucky ones with nature It's difficult to come to terms with it. I've seen this in my own family.

Best wishes going forward.

Not denying that our climate is changing.
This thread title is Greta.
The kid has autism. It is a wide, probably infinite spectrum. We are all different.
She has been fed information by her parents and backers, whos views are as inflexible as those you berate on here.
She fixates on these to a greater extent because of her condition. Not comfortable watching her so emotional in front of a worldwide audience so they can score points..
I have autism. Thankfully high functioning , probably due to not being diagnosed til late in life, so having had to cope.
This kid should be at home in scandiwegia listening to music, gossiping with her mates about boys, love island or whatever. Not being convinced to cross the worlds second biggest ocean in hurricame season in a sail boat as a publicity stunt.

This is exactly my point. There's no doubt things need to be done to stop pollution etc, but this is just exploiting a child.

How do you know?

Don't you think it's a little patronising to assume she is being 'used'? Sure she has backers, but maybe she convinced them, rather than vice versa?

Also as well, look how mane people across the globe marched on Friday last week. She’s making people sit up and take notice.

I too was quite passionate about climate change (in a quiet way), or cutting down on waste etc. I still am with recycling because that’s definitely achievable and even if it doesn’t reverse ‘climate change’, it does save on landfill and damage to the environment and wildlife. But I can’t get my head round how ignorant a lot of teenagers and twenty something’s are when they just chuck their plastic bottle with cap on in a normal bin when the recycling one is either next to it or not far away. (And then there’s the question of what happens to the collected recycling. Hmmm. Where does it actually go? And why the supermarkets continue with black plastic trays is where the arrogance and ignorance accusations should also go, but they are separate issues)

The issues now differ to 20 years ago.

Chinese business.
India and Brazil’s growth. ‘Why should we not prosper as you have’

But also, are all the concerned youth going to cut down on their carbon footprint, give up their mobile phone, or have a second hand one for 10 years? Never go travelling? Not drive a car? Buy a couple of items of clothing per year rather than an amount of clothes that need 10,000 swimming pools worth of water to produce?

Stirling is right again. It’s either population or technology that needs to be reversed. The definite effect is that low lying countries will lose land. I’d rather do everything we can to hedge our bets on this but because of technology, population and emerging markets it’s not going to happen. But the least we can do is reduce plastic food packaging or make it more recyclable. That is inexcusable, including supermarkets that claim to be concerned by this or that.

What will they (those who can, or can’t) do? Not a lot.

I took notice this time of her scowling at Trump when he entered the room. Exploiting a child without a doubt.

Maybe you should do a bit of reading about her parents, family and backers.
She has been fed this stuff since birth.

YURSSSSSS. The predictable responses from the predictable posters.

At least she’a doing something about what she believes in rather than sat behind a keyboard whinging.

Spot on!

I started to read this thread in the hope that maybe we would see some reality from the usual suspects but no. Just the predictable, it's all a lie, other scientists disagree, the girl is being exploited type of responses that make me question how some people can always deny what is obvious to others.

If anyone thinks those words and the way she delivered them yesterday weren't real and from her heart then you have just witnessed the best acting performance ever seen from a child.

Climate change is real and mankind's contribution to it has been established beyond the slightest of doubt in anyone's mind but the recklessly selfish. That technology can help moderate it's impact and needs to be exploited is true. That if we could find a way of reducing population growth it would also help is also true. The key though to ensuring that the worst forecasts are not realised is to change our expectations and then our behaviour. We can still all be happy but our great grandchildren can then also be happy.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Tell all that to the emerging markets and poor people around the world who are going to rely on this technological world to pull themselves up the ladder.

You saying ‘That if we could find a way of reducing population growth it would also help is also true‘ implies deep down you don’t think it’s possible. Controlling the worldwide population? Good luck.
