Not really.

The row of seats behind me at Selhurst appear to have different nationalities every week. Sometimes Chinese, sometimes American but more often than not Scandinavian. All seem very nice although often they seem clueless as to what’s going on.

Once we eventually drop out of the premiership we won’t see any of these guys again and it will be left to us ‘locals’ to watch us play the Bristol City’s.

There is a big difference between "supporting" a club and attending matches.

20 years ago I spent a year working for a company near Cardiff and almost every one of the Welsh workforce supported Liverpool rather than Cardiff which was the local club and outside of the Premiership at the time.

I don't suppose that many (if any) actually attended matches though

I often wonder why football fans refer to themselves,or are referred to by others as "supporters" when they have never supported the club ,EVER, by way of putting money in to a club's coffers to keep them in business.

No,these people are "followers" in the same way that camp followers supported an army in times gone by, but dissappeared like the night mist on asunny morning when that army suffered a change in fortune. Of course, they know everthing that there is to know about "their club" because they are well read, or perhaps not.

To illustrate, many years ago while employed and installing computers in London I was told by a client that he supported the Red Devils. I enquired what made him "support" Man Ure to which he replied he could never "support" his rivals but it was Liverpool he meant. Discretion ruled, and I choose not to enlighten him.

Perhaps our new convert could meet up with Jimenez and Maine Eagle for a booze up. Provided ME can take a break from Tindering for a few hours.

You have a very narrow definition of the word supporter which seems to be in line with your own prejudices.

I support Boris Johnson but I've never paid him any money

That's a rather childish definition

Ah Maine trotting out the old "Yanks love my accent line" I've found from experience that the Yanks either think you're Irish or Australian? Also I didn't realise ME was Gay!!

Seriously, why would you respond to a poster like that Midland?

You are a board moderator and so should be above making antagonist comments to people.

FFS, am I the only one on here who finds this sort of post Nauseating?

So if we hadn't beat Man U on Saturday you wouldn't have chosen to support Palace. It begs belief.

What happens if we lose to Villa on Saturday? do you start following someone else?

Like Stirling says, to me your football club is a way of identifying with your area, its about family and friendships, its not something to choose based on the last weekends results.

I wish the OP no ill but come on, you stopped supporting your old club because they became "stale and boring" jeez you should have watched the Colchester game!

No, the truth is I had been considering changing sides for a few years now. The universe happened to align around this very specific set of circumstances. Take it how you like, I've ordered my Palace away kit so they've already got my money.

Yes it's all true about choosing your club and never changing in the general way of all things football..... BUT........... when you see the light and convert to join the roller coaster that is being a Palace fan you are simply showing your great discernment (or your total stupidity, like the rest of us)and the rules do not apply.

Enjoy the ride!

This, all day.

As in all aspects of life there are definitely those who are more hardcore than others. I respect that, and it's the core that's at the heartbeat of any club.

Still, any successful church needs to be broad.

There's an old saying 'success has many fathers, while failure is an orphan'....it's not a particularly noble aspect to human nature...... so a new fan who takes us on when we aren't setting any pulses racing is welcome: fanatical to fairweather......Hopefully we can have a good season and encourage more.

For me though it'll always be about being a South Londoner.

Me too. I’ve lost count of how often I’ve been asked “Why Palace?” over the years. The answer “They were my local club” was invariably met with a blank stare so I changed it to “Because I’m a glory hunter”.

I have a couple of questions for you.

Who was the team you followed up until Saturday?

Also, If Palace have a sh@t season or two and become everything that your former club apparently is, would you consider switching to another team?
