There were ten changes from Saturday’s win at United and three points against Villa are far more precious than progress in the Carabao Cup. I’d expect to see a far different performance.

I don’t know of any manager that would do better with the hand that Roy has been given. Our Premier League points tally since the turn of the year is impressive.

However every attacking option was used in some way last night and we were unable to break them down. Looks to me that we are running out of options unless somebody up front steps up to the plate pretty soon.

Ayew was again our best player after coming on and is a superior footballer to both Benteke and Wickham.
Zaha and Townsend need to find some form and Camarasa looked to have some attacking guile / quality until he was dragged down the level of the others.

of our last 9 at home in the league, we won 3, lost 3, drew 3.

that's 'dreadful'?

Defeats against Man City, Man Utd ( during the Ole bounce period ) and Brighton. Of the 3 defeats only Brighton was a disaster.

i think i know whats going to happen saturday...

being the away team, villa are going to sit back, have a minimum of 7 behind the ball, we are going to spend a lot of time playing the ball between kelly / cahill / luca / jimmy, then once that has happened we will lose possession and concede at some point meaning a narrow win for villa.

was it last time we played villa in the prem bentekkers robbed scott dann at the byline to give them a win?

right now i would take a point meaning 5 from 4 games.

Is that supposed to be sarky about Kelly's performance against Colchester? While the failure to score was a disappointment, I thought the defence (including Kelly) seemed OK. Certainly their goalie had more to do than Hennesey.

I agree it would be good to have Ward back but I would keep Kelly and Cahill as the centre backs.

Listening to the post-match news conference Roy said Ward and Schlupp were carrying injuries. In the case of the former I hope it doesn't keep him out of Saturday given how well Kelly played alongside Cahill and our lack of other options. The highlights suggest Camarasa has the ability to create us chances (albeit this was against L2 opposition)

Having read your comment again, I don't think you were being sarky, so I would apologise.

I know you shouldn't pay attention to the league until at least 5 games, but isn't is strange that only 1 team has 100% record and 1 team has 0% whilst 10 have 4 points.

Easily his best goal at Selhurst. I'd take any from him at the mo tho.

The team doesn't look fully fit. This side to side malarkey looks rusty.

Yep. I was just making the point to ghosty that, despite the easy rhetoric that we're crap at home, our home form is actually okay. Beat Villa and you can upgrade 'okay' to 'pretty good'. People's expectations are too high. We will typically lose to top six sides.

I have the same thoughts as you about how Villa will set up and us just playing slowly across the back from one player to another until then passing short to a midfield player who is now heavily marked. That midfield player will then have to pass it back to a defender who will pass it to another defender. Some time during this long period we will hoof it upfield and Villa’s defence will win it and then try and break us down. This will finally happen when we either make a mistake at the back or on rare attack by us we will lose the ball and they will get a winner on a breakaway. Just a normal boring home Palace match which we’ve become accustomed to at Selhurst :-(

You forgot the 'in my opinion' bit.
