Cahill Tomkins Sakho Luka Ward Mayer Camarasa Schlupp Wilf Townsend Sub: Kelly; PVA; Kouyate; Ayew; Wickham; Benteke/McArthur; Hennessey I've gone with the 3 at the back with wingbacks (going with the "don't score enough goals" tactic). We have a good team when you write down all the names on paper (or computer!) but they need the fight that they lacked on Sunday to make any formation work.

Ward has little attacking threat and Schlupp looks lost when playing in midfield

It may be worth trying Ayew and Schlupp on the wings against Colchester and give Wickham/ Benteke 45 mins each. It may be worth leaving Schlupp on the team bus against Colchester. I get a knot in my stomach when I see his name next or near the team sheet.

It's difficult to say what our actual best XI might be, as Roy doesn't change shape and we haven't seen Camarasa yet. I'd suggest we have two line ups, away and home. Away (451) : Guaita Ward Townsend Benteke Home (433) : Guaita Ward Camarasa Zaha Clearly this is fantasy, but I can dream...

If Wickham or Bentenke can't start scoring then I'd be tempted to throw Schlupp up top. He has a great shot on him, he's good in the air and he's quick and strong. Most of his shots are also on target. I seem to remember one of Palace's coaches saying he is the best striker of a ball. It may not work, but surely we have to start experimenting. I also believe he scored when Roy played him up top in pre-season. In midfield he's quite lazy, is not the greatest passer and we have plenty of better players for the middle of the park. He hasn't played left-back for ages and looked no better at defending than PvA when he did play there.

Schlupp did start life as a striker apparently, presumably got pushed back down the pitch for a reason however,
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
