Not the Hodgson we've come to know! He's not a horses for course man, he's a "if I play exactly the same way 38 times in a row, I'll get a result 33% of the time and we'll stay up" kind of boring coach.
He'll start the same 11 again, perhaps dropping someone for Wilf.

Injury or disobedience are the only factors that make him change a starting player.

Most of what you say I agree with.

Hodgson has spent much of his career with limited resources and has found a way to win a certain number of games so until Palace shake the money tree for him why would you change that. Yes it's percentage football but his record kinda speaks for itself.

Most managers have a certain way of playing both Klopp and Guardiola will only play one way regardless of the results, they are fortunate to be at clubs that back their style with money.

Agree about Roy’s conservative approach which has given him a long and relatively successful career.
He’s unlikely to change now.
There is a nagging part of me that would like to see him exploring a formation which involves Zaha, Camarasa and Meyer but I just don’t see him accommodating them all in his starting line up.
A manager such as Brendan Rodgers would probably attempt to do this but the system would probably be too open for Roy.

Yes, eventually I would like to see Camarasa and Meyer as the wide midfielders and Townsend up top with Wilf, but that is just my opinion.

Oddly enough, Luka said the opposite of this in an interview last week:

“Roy is a very experienced manager on one side – he loves to play on results. He uses his team to get as many points as he can get from every single game. Roy tries to adapt to the opponents to get the points.

Marco Silva has one kind of philosophy. He tries to use that philosophy in every single game – he doesn’t love to change, to adapt to the opponent. He has his philosophy and plays his way – the same."

I was surprised.

Ray Lewington gave a very revealing interview to the effect of Hodgson is a creature of habit and values obedience above everything else.

Danny Murphy and other former players hsve said his training sessions were always the same.

Luka is proving he's obedient and trotting out the party line I reckon. Anyone with working eyes can see Roy's inflexibility.

I was calling for his head last season, but after yet another summer of the board proving it's bargain basement or f*** all I admit I see no merit in sacking the Wodge. He's perfect for the board's ambition of scraping survival on zero investment. I just can't buy into it and can't pretend to be happy about it.

1 draw down, another 37 to go.

I think he is a marvelous manager Chris and that we are blessed to have him. Also you may think I am mad but I dont find our football remotely boring or defensive. We are rigid and stick to a system but we are nothing like Newcastle, Brighton or Burnley last year.

Our main issue is that we just have no one to stick the ball in the back of the net and that can't be blamed on Roy.

I hope he's with us for a few more years,

Opportunity missed as far as I'm concerned . His absolute refusal to drop out of form players (PVA especially) or adapt to opposition (Brighton and Watford especially) means that we missed our best opportunity to challenge for a top 8 finish last season. I agree regarding the strikers to an extend, but it's also clear that finishing isn't being worked on enough in training. Nor are set pieces which we've become criminally wasteful with.
This season, the board failed to get a striker (Maupay I think is going to prove a "what could've been" player) nor have we any sensible, premier league standard, options at right back. Without this backing Roy is our best option. Going to home games is going to remain a no go for me!
Ideally a new manager comes in after Roy's contract runs down, having secured our survival with a few games to spare, and the board back him in the market.

Cynically, Roy will get an extension, one more quality player will go and not be replaced and it's a continuation of the funeral march to the inevitable relegation, just like Stoke, West Brom, Fulham etc who's boards took the same approach in years gone by.

Still though, roll on celebrating 8 seasons of clinging on whoop whoop!

I'd like to see Camarasa in for JMac. The rest of the lineup can stay the same.

Camarasa and Meyer might be able to actually get the ball to our forwards.

Ideally, we'd have better options up front than Ayew and Benteke, but we don't. I may be willing to try Wickham over Benteke, but he was crap when he came on against Everton. Wickham is the size of a pro wrestler. I think he's taking something other than vitamins.

2017 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Middlesboro
2018 Jan. (Sako) Palace 1 - 0 Burnley
2019 May (Batshuayi, Batshuayi, OG, Van Aanholt, Townsend) Palace 5 - 3 Bournemouth
2020 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Newcastle

One of our best, most consistent and hardworking players over the last few seasons? Wouldn't recommend it.

Hodgson will of course take account of how Sheff Utd set-up and this might influence his thinking.

In the Championship, Sheff Utd were very adventurous with their centre-halves coming forward and overlapping which of course was unique and they engineered overloads in wide areas so if they still deploy such tactics in the PL we could well be tested down the flanks unless of course we play 2 up front and occupy their central defenders.Sheff Utd used to play 3 central defenders in the Championship.

The prem is all about counter attacking, that system could fail miserably

It's all about the next game, of course.

I agree and I thought he was excellent on Saturday against Everton. I am struggling to see where Camarassa is going to get a run in this team witchout a complete change from Roy. I wouldnt be holding my breath on him starting anytime soon.
