I agree that abortion is necessary. But the argument has lost sight.

Back when I was at school, when they talked about abortion, it was a somber subject, lot's of reasons where presented for and against it, and we came to the conclusion that it was the least bad option in many cases. Our elected members in parliament came to the same conclusion and abortion was legalised with strict rules around it.

Unfortunately, it seems times have changed and now the view is that abortion is simply a woman's right. Rape and poverty arguments are put forward, but all the women who I am aware of that have had one have clearly done it for convenience. Others have been forced into it by their partners, getting a woman to kill her unborn baby is almost if not as bad a rape, and an argument that's always overlooked.

From my perspective, people have oversimplified the argument to only say "It's a woman's right/choice". People were having parties when they passed abortion laws in ireland. This isn't respecting the sanctity of life in my opinion.

Now there's actresses in America calling for a sex strike to get men to pay attention. That's ridiculous. If you are passing a law to allow abortions on the basis that you'll get to have sex with your partner again then it's not taking the debate seriously.

I wish instead of people being so hysterical about how evil the other side were in this debate they could realise that both sides are compassionate, and there are no winners.

Given the state of some of the posts on this website I reckon there's a strong case for extending it to about 70 years!

recently the fertility statistics for Japan nosedived.

the whole japanese race could go the same way as the Dodo, the white rhino, the Panda .....highly endangered.

and where the japanese go, the rest of us will often follow. Sky high house prices, elderly population, the young adults remaining childless and often single.

and then the gaps in the labour market make mass immigration inevitable. Who will help you lug that piano up the stairs ?

I'm torn. I think abortion is abhorrent and should be only for the most extreme of circumstances. A life is a life.

But i'm also aware that the world is grossly overpopulated and can't handle the amount of people in it.
