Assange should not get to decide which laws he will or will not respect. He was awaiting deportation to Sweden not America. Further the idea that Sweden will roll over for the Americans is nonsense. The Swedes on multiple occasions have depth charged Russian sub sneaking into their waters. If you believe Assange the Swedish justice system is not to be trusted which if I were Swedish I would find offensive. I have no idea if he is guilty of these sexual offences or even if the Swedes still want him that is their decision. But he fled from due process in the UK and we need to send a message to him and the speedboat killer that you cannot get away with this otherwise you just invite further trouble.

My first reaction to this news was one of great anger. It has been a witch hunt from the start. The US have always been out to make an example of a major patriotic whistle blower. They can get away with heinous planetary crimes (e.g. Iraq, 9/11) while calling this man a traitor. Let's not forget that in the first place Assange and Wikileaks were/are dedicated to exposing the truth. This while the elitist controlled mass media continue to characterize Assange as a nasty piece of work etc etc. This pap is lapped up by most as truth (to wit some of the comments on this thread) without realizing that the mainstream media are in cahoots with the major governments' falsifications. In general haven't you all noticed that freedoms of speech, freedoms of the press and the freedom to blow the whistle are being constantly eroded (fear abounds in PC land). We live in dangerous times and people need to wake up to what's really going on and see through the propaganda before it's too late.

I agree with your attitude towards whistle blowers......they are a necessary check if you are going to have actual democracies......though after what has been passing for democracy recently (Brexit not happening, Basque independence being ignored) I'm starting to lose faith in it. However, I don't believe in 9/11 conspiracy theories. Everything that happened that day has an explanation, I've yet to encounter a good enough reason to believe otherwise. The Iraq war was probably a mistake in hindsight.....though I struggle to weep for Saddam. The Afghanistan war was necessary revenge for 9/11. Edited by Stirlingsays (11 Apr 2019 4.55pm)

From what I have read Assange is neither just a journalist nor just a whistleblower, both of which deserve all the protections we can arrange. He poses as such but they are smokescreens. It appears he may well be a traitor whose real allegiance and paymaster is Putin. My understanding is that the FBI want to get their hands on him because they believe he has a lot of information which will assist them in their investigations into Russian interference in western politics It is rumoured that he holds information which is potentially very damaging to Trump. It will therefore be very interesting to see what Trump has to say about his arrest and expected extradition.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

There's a rumour that I've got a ten inch weapon stored on my person. Every night I have to carefully handle it in case it might go off and bring the house down.

There is a world of difference between wild conspiracy theories dreamt up by those with specific agendas and rumours said to be based on intelligence agency leaks and emanating from previously reliable sources. I disregard the former but tend to believe the latter. You are, of course, free to assume both are worthless.

It wasn't a left learning information source was it per chance? You know what....at least this rumour can quickly be found out to be valid or not.....that way we can ascertain which one of us listens and believes nonsense and which doesn't. Personally I don't rate your chances.

What is not in dispute is he ran to the Ecuadorean Embassy for asylum after the U.K. agreed to extradite him to Sweden to face rape charges. He claims the Swedes were acting as a straw man for the United States which is a bunch of cobblers. If the Swedes honored U.S. extradition requests they would have shipped a whole bunch of Americans back who fled there to avoid going to Vietnam or deserted from the military from Vietnam or had orders to go there. Not one American was ever sent back. That makes Julian Assamge a suspected batterer of woman & a bald faced liar. All the other stuff is irrelevant to me since I despise batterers & rapists.

What I would say here though is that you seem to be convicting the man based upon your dislike of the crime. Personally, while I don't discount anything I find the whole thing suspicious.

Innocent until proven guilty and all that, but if you had to e-fit a sex offender from your imagination alone you'd come up with this geezer's face. Hiding in a boardroom for ten years? Absolutely guilty. Get that beast in clink.
