However, the DNA testing is quite robust now, so that I think it more likely than not, they have identified Jack D Ripper. The reason I have not submitted my DNA sample to "Trace your Ancestry", type companies regards a few issues: 1. My grandfather 'put it about' all over the globe. I really can't be bothered to meet my hundreds of relatives. Blluurghhh Edited by Forest Hillbilly (20 Mar 2019 8.01pm) I was watching one of those US murder programmes where the killer was caught because he sent in his DNA to Ancestry.com or whatever. I suggest that you would probably be better off not sending a sample in Forest. You might get linked to that can of cider you nicked in 1986.

Oh my god....I hope they don't send in that girl's curtains back in 91.....that'll be one bill I really don't need right now. Edited by Stirlingsays (20 Mar 2019 8.40pm)

The Ripper thing has always irritated me. The real story of the Ripper is police incompetence. If you cut through all the sensationalism, ignore the fake letters and multiple theories about foreigners, the real culprit is fairly obvious. A man who a policeman found over the body of a victim who had just been killed and with no one else in sight. His walk to work took him close to all the slayings and he worked with meat. Duh! Charles Cross (Charles Lechmere) This. Brilliant detective work by a Danish? Journalist.

Mmmm...true, purely a cultural and incidental phrase though....personally I'd ban the practice.....and I'm going with the DNA evidence on this one. Edited by Stirlingsays (21 Mar 2019 5.26pm)

Edited by Stirlingsays (21 Mar 2019 5.26pm) That shawl has been contaminated by so many people that I have serious doubts about DNA tests. I would need to be entirely convinced by this because I believe that it is already an open and shut case with Lechmere.

But I'm not looking into it....I'll wait until the next film version comes out. Edited by Stirlingsays (21 Mar 2019 6.47pm)

Yes a very good case for that person but then most of the ones that make it to a TV show are very plausible. I did have one issue with the program it is clear he lied in court and gave a false name so the program makers jumped to the conclusion he must be the ripper. There is an alternate theory I don't remember them exploring. He sees the body and is robbing it when he is seen by a copper and quickly switches to innocent bystander mode. We will never know the truth for sure.

Edited by Stirlingsays (21 Mar 2019 6.47pm) Of course one has to remain open to indisputable evidence but I will wait and see on this one. For me, the bloke standing over the body with the bloody knife is usually the killer.
